Specifically for video media, if the device detects uniform black bars at the top and bottom/left and right sides of the screen, even if there is room for the video to fill the screen left and right/top and bottom, the device will automatically, temporarily crop the screen to fill as much of the screen with non-black pixels as possible. For example, watching a 16:9 video on the front screen of the Z Fold, but the video has a black bar top and bottom to replicate a 21:9 aspect ratio. Instead of half the screen being black pixels, the device treats the video as 21:9 and increases the size of the video.
