Hello, I am unable to make or receive calls have moved towards voLTE, however this has caused my handset to be unable to take or make calls, but can receive data and messages. Thus i have tried to search to through the mobile network and it simply isn't there. But due to my research my model of s9 (G960U) should be compatible and have the option of voLTE here.

Well done Baalsgate, you got there in the end! 😊👍

You must be tired of downloading & installing different versions of firmware after all that?!

So to summarise (for other firmware warriors):

Hi HJ_E

Thanks so much for all the info you posted on how to flash the firmware. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and looking for the XSA firmware for this. My model is SM-G7810 (which is the Hong Kong model). Do I download the SM-G7810F model firmware which is for  Australia (XSA)?

Thanks for your help in advance!

It depends where you live?

If you live in Australia and your carrier is Telstra or Optus, etc… Then you use the unbranded CSC for Australia which is XSA.

If you live in Hong Kong, you need to find out what the unbranded CSC for Hong Kong is and use that.

Hi I realise I should have been clearer! I'm in Australia but bought my phone from overseas. As I mentioned its model SM-G7810. I tried to find the Australian XSA firmware for this model but all of them are only for China or Hong Kong. The Australian XSA firmware seems to be only for the model SM-G7810F. My question is whether its ok to download and flash the firmware for SM-G7810F or does the firmware have to exactly match the model of my phone (SM-G7810)?

Do not put the firmware of another model on your phone, they are not compatible.

I’m not sure if the SM-G7810 (Hong Kong model of S20 FE 5G) will work in Australia?

Best thing to do would be to contact your carrier and ask them.

More Information :
The international version of your phone is: SM-G781B.  (From: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s20_fe_5g-10377.php)
You can see on SamFw:  https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G781B  that if you had that version you could easily install Australia- XSA, among many other options (countries).
But you have SM-G7810 which is intended only for China or Hong Kong.

So I Googled: Can you flash SM-G7810 with firmware of SM-G781B ?
Most people say it is not possible. No one seem to have done it successfully.

So I guess (for others reading this) the moral of the story is: If you buy a phone online and you are in Australia or Europe, you need to buy the International version of the phone. (Or whatever version your carrier is using)  {Also make sure it is Unlocked}

Thanks HJ_E

It is definitely a hard lesson learned. I am using the phone now but it's not likely to work after the 3G shutdown in Oct, so looks like I need to buy a new phone - sad.

Thanks for your help looking up that additional info though - very much appreciated - shame for me it won't work....

That is sad, sorry I could not help you to fix it.

The phone does seem to have all the relevant 4G and 5G frequency bands, so why do you think it will stop working after 3G shutdown?
Is it because you can’t get it to use VoLTE?

Yes I would have thought it would continue to work too - here's where it gets interesting and confusing. In July I SMS'ed the Telstra number to see if my phone would be compatible. The response said yes. Then I did it again last month and the response was that my phone "cannot connect to the mobile network's main 4G frequency (B28/700MHz)" so wouldn't work after the 3G shutdown. I am also getting the recorded message when I make a call that my phone not likely to work after the shutdown.

I'm with Aldi, so I rang them and asked them about it - that if I have a phone purchased from overseas would it work after the shutdown. They told me no, that only Australian phones would work on the network after the shutdown.

Like Nelson, I don't have the VoLTE toggle switch on the phone, however, I think my phone is currently using VoLTE as in the icons at the top right hand side (where WiFi, reception bars etc are) show a VoLTE1 icon.

I asked Aldi about this and they said it didn't matter if my phone was using VoLTE now, it wouldn't work after the shutdown.

I find this confusing, as if it can use VoLTE now, not sure why this wouldn't be the case after the shutdown.

I could chance it and see what happens after Oct and if I can still make calls etc I suppose, but had wanted to get ahead of the game.

If you or anyone else can shed some light on this predicament, I'd be grateful!

That is VERY confusing!
You would think that, if you can see the VoLTE icon on screen, it must be working?!
I would wait till after 28 October, and then see if it still works…

I would not trust the Telstra warnings.
I did the SMS- check a month ago and it said it cannot determine if my phone is ready for the shutdown?
I just did the check again; Now it says it won’t work after 28 October because it is using the 3G network for voice calls. That is just wrong, it is using 4G and VoLTE is enabled?!
On the other hand I’m not getting the recorded message when I make a call…???
So who knows what the heck is going on at Telstra?!
