S24 Colour and Bridghtness Issue

Hi all, I recently "upgraded" from an S23 Ultra to an S24 Ultra and I am seriously considering returning the phone due to the screen issue.

I have reached out Samsung and have been told personally this is how the screen is meant to be.

I have also seen responses saying a fix us underway, but from others advised by Samsung.

I have seen testing done which suggests the DCI P3 is not 99% as with my S23 Ultra but like 85%. This would explain the muted / dull colours.

Samsung are known for great and vibrant screens, so why intentionally remove your USP?

I have tested lots of footage in Natural mode, given Vivid doesn't appear to work or make any real difference on the S24 Ultra. Netflix, YouTube and Disney Plus and apart from Disney Plus, the picture on the S23 Ultra was far far brighter with better colour saturation then on the S24 Ultra. Clearly this shouldn't be the case. I am concerned that all the so called big reviewers that got their review models early to review, didn't mention this at all. It's literally the first thing you notice when you switch the S24 Ultra on. Is it the current software AWM9 and was this rolled out after the reviewers had their samples?

Can someone in the know please confirm categorically whether the issue is hardware or software related?

I personally would keep the phone, if Samsung can provide assurances this will definitely be fixed in the near future.

I apologise for the not so helpful comment... but every day the forum is dominated with washed out screen posts.

I fully understand what you are saying. I don't think there is any official source saying they will issue a software update. The official news that I have seen was along the lines...

'Samsung has confirmed the galaxy s24 series vivid mode is working as intended, despite the washed out colours. The color adjustment is not a defect but in fact intentional. The reason for change is to provide a more natural viewing experience. '

I don't think there will be an update any time soon. Perhaps if more complaints are made, they may change their stance.

That's a generic response from Samsung Chat, there are others saying Samsung engineers are working on a fix. Seems to vary from country to country.

Thanks. I appreciate that every day you are seeing the comments, and if you are personally happy with the device, that must be frustrating.

I feel that the number of threads is justified as this is a genuine global problem that Samsung needs to rectify and fast.

I am one of many loyal customers they could risk losing if this is not fixed soon.

You're very welcome @Legend86

Samsung I'm confident are well aware of the feedback from this forum, live chat agents and the statistics of people sending their phone's back.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Actually I may have also been an upset customer had I decided to upgrade.. but I stuck with the s23u this time around. At least until the mid year sale campaign. Hoping that most teething issues will be fixed by then.

Of course I don't think samsung are intentionally upsetting all their loyal customers so there is a very good chance at some point they will revert to a more standard colour scheme.

I had bad experiences with preordering S21u a couple years ago, low battery life, overheating, stability issues and general poor optimisation when it was released. Since then I decided that preorder on day1 is not for me.

Back in July the summer deals were equally attractive without the mad rush and release of software that was not quite ready.

I hope they do take heed of all the complaints and comments, else they will likely receive a LOT of returned phones and some 'egg on face'. Perhaps a loss of loyal customers like yourself, and I am sure they would wish to avoid that situation.

Fingers crossed.

I got shot down in here for making reference to the numbers of posts on the same subject lol 🤪🤪🤪

Where's @keith30 when you need him?

You are 100% right.

Just need someone to ask about Disney+ and £30 Galaxy Store and you'll have the full set 🤪🤪🤪

It is not the gorilla glass or the anti reflection coating. None of us can say what Samsung will do.
