New Update: can't open files sent in Facebook messenger

So the recent UI updates have caused me nothing but headaches, it's affecting my ability to work - i have a few different jobs and volunteer for a number of organisations - currently organising 2 big community events and so these 'teething issues' are not appreciated.

Lastest issue (discovered today) - i can't open a file that has been sent to me in Facebook messenger. It is a PDF document.

It won't offer me the relevant Apps to open the file in...or allow me to choose what app to open the file in.

For some reason it will only offer apps that cannot open PDF files?! (Samsung Health, Google, and Google Wallet) 

I have tried to clear the default apps and have restarted my phone, but that hasn't done anything.

I have the same issue, it's incredibly disruptive and the fact it hasn't been fixed yet pretty much confirmed I don't want a Samsung anymore.

Same problem here since yesterday update. Did you find a solution finally? leaving in few hours for my trip and I have my doc in pdf in messenger cannot download grrrrr. help please.

If you forward the documents to yourself on Messenger, it should work when you open them in the "convo" with yourself.

Same issue here. Worst, its with pdf, docx, ppt.. phones option to open files are the apps that are incompatible the file. Tried changing default apps and uninstalling the suggestion options by the apps but still dosnt solve the problem.. any successful solutions there?

I also have this problem after updating my UI. Two apps have been affected.
1. Facebook - I cannot download files. I tried going to Apps/App Permissions but i cannot find the access storage option.
2. Messenger - The mention sound is no longer available for the longest time!!! Also, I cannot receive prompts for new messages. Then when I try to open a photo, it is blank and when i try to send photos too, the photos are all blank but when i choose an album the cover photos can be seen but when i select the album, it turns blank.

Hoping for this to be fixed ASAP!!! I have a lot of things to do on FB and Messenger.

I also have this problem. I need to open my laptop to download the files. I hope it gets fixed soon, as it causes a lot of inconvenience.

Same issue on my S23 Ultra, I went searching for a solution and ended up here. I usually open Office files with WPS, so I didn’t notice the problem at first. But today I tried to upload a Word document to my Drive and realized I can’t open docx or pdf files using the Microsoft Office apps anymore.

WPS still works as a backup to view and edit files, and I can upload and edit online, but it’s definitely not ideal. I rely heavily on my phone for work, so this has been really inconvenient. Hoping Samsung resolves this soon.
