So my partner bought a refurbed like-new S23 Ultra last year and dropped it a couple months ago, smashing the screen. He took it to a phone repair shop and after they replaced the screen, it couldn't register his SIM properly. So he took it back to them twice more, before they eventually "sent it away to be fixed".
He got it back on Monday morning and at first the screen was unresponsive and only lit up for a split second, only showing the time when he pressed the power button. Then it worked absolutely perfectly for a couple of days, until this morning (Weds), and now the screen stays black even though the phone is on.
We tried restarting it multiple times, but the only light you can see from the screen is "Samsung Galaxy" when it first turns on, then only the clock when you press the power button - it displays for less than a second before it fades to black. It's also very very dim, but he had the brightness up high before it started doing this. It vibrates as if it's doing normal things.
I can call it, and my name and the answer/decline buttons show up very briefly. He can answer the phone and talk just fine, but there's just no life in the screen.
Does anyone have any ideas what we can do? He's ready to bin it but it seems a waste of money.

Probably something silly like the screen connection not pushed fully into place.
Will require opening the phone.
Sometimes household insurance or some bank accounts have cover for things like phone repairs. Something worth exploring if you don't want to go back to that repairer.
I know it costs more, but I prefer to go with a manufacturer recommended repair. Usually get a warranty and genuine parts used

Thanks, he just told me he hit the centre of the screen really hard with the ball of his hand and now it's working again... so definitely a connection inside. We definitely don't want to take it back to the original repair shop because they're awful, so will look into a different repair place.

Oh good point, thank you. We'll definitely take it into a more reliable repair place

They appear to be based almost exclusively in London, with 4 other locations in the country, so not an option for us. Thanks though

I just watched a “how to” repair video on YouTube. The guy says there are 2 ways to repair the screen, from the back is the best. It can be repaired from the front but you have to be very precise and press it down in place to fully engage one of the cables. I bet your repair guy tried to fix it from the front of the phone and that cable isn’t fully engaged which would explain your sporadic power. I would go back to that guy and make him fix it again!
