Not getting any software updates and need to have octobers security patch level to conform to my works BYOD. cant force and update and dont want to root phone using odin and trip knox. Not good for a work phone. Any explanation as to why no updates are being recieved? Is there a way to force an update without compromising security. could samsung do anything or send it in for a service?

First check the model number. You can then look it up to see what country region it's for. I got mine of eBay and it's a USA model. I couldn't get update untill I used Samfw tool on PC to change the CSC. You can go to Samfirmware click your on firmware update and put the model number in to see what CSC code you need to get updates. Mine was on XUA. Changed it to XAA as that is USA unlocked and all good. You need to take the SIM out when changing CSC. 
To check your CSC go to settings > about phone > software information and look for "service provider software version" your CSC will be on the bottom line just like the image I've posted

The last one on the bottom row, which is your device CSC code, is MXO, which is the CSC code for Mexico. So that will be why you aren't getting OTA updates.
