Hi, I have a s23u and a Z Flip 2 and everything I try to do to get my tethering speed to use the higher speeds hits a brick wall. Some issues make sense, sort of, but others are errors on the phone or failure to update to remove bottlenecks in matching technology and so on.
The make sense part :
A usb 2.0 socket and lead is limited to usb 2.0 capabilities.
The rest :
So I made sure I was using a usb3.0 port (14th gen i7 based pc) and spent money on two different usb3.0 cables and tested everything for thru-put to see data transfers are where they are supposed to be. But I want to use this capability for internet tethering connection.
Z Flip 2 does not have usb3.0
s23 ultra does but will NOT keep a stable connection and disconnects seconds later. ONLY when trying to tether/connect to pc. It will charge. It did work at first but after a few minutes disconnected and now refuses.
Z Flip will connect and tether to pc using same lead. Naturally only providing around 300mbps.
=== both above phones will speedtest on same sim showing upwards of 700mbps where I live.
So... I give up on the tethering because after posting here, it didn't seem like I was gonna get any answers as to why the s23u was disconnecting and went for the wifi approach.
Naturally I have various wifi dongles. a 150mbps and a 300mbps and I eventually found out my tplink t2u which does : High Speed WiFi– Up to 600Mbps speeds with 200Mbps on 2.4GHz and 433 Mbps on 5GHz
But it will not see the 5ghz connection. Even though it needs to, to be capable of the speeds claimed above. TP LINK say and have said since 2020/21 that :
Please verify if your network card is the EU version. If it is an EU version, be aware that currently, our network cards of EU version do not support the 5G channels 149 and above. We recommend adjusting the router settings to change the 5G channel to 36 and checking if the network card can then scan for 5G Wi-Fi.
But android doesn't seem to allow channel changing like you can on other devices.
So I went out and bought a newer more uptodate device.. the tp link t3u plus. And... yes, you guessed it, they have done the same thing with that. They have also promised to update it but clearly their promises are empty.
The t3u : delivers 867mbps on 5GHz & 400 Mpbs on 2.4GHz bandwidths
So I can't use the dongles on 5ghz because they can't see those channels and I can't change the channels because android doesn't have the feature to do so, built in.
To be clear I am only bothered about this when it comes to downloading a new game or they have massive updates. I am very glad for 300mbps but if I can use the extra speed, and these devices are capable of that, I should be able it and it would be beneficial, at certain times.
Dear Samsung, please update your OS so we can use the tech.

So I swapped sim over to s23u and enabled the 5ghz hotspot and the same result. the t2u dongle and the t3u dongle cannot see the 5ghz connection. I tested the Zflip to connect to the s23u and that could see it and connected fine.
