Try not to switch from google messages to messages to often or your number will get blocked for 8 working days, put it back to google messages and leave it for a few days, then try again, after you have switched to Google messages clean out the Samsung messages data, then try again in a few days.

Any luck anyone?

My chat features were working just fine in samsung messages until I tried google messages for a day. It's been two days since then and samsung messages still fail to register. I've disabled google messages, cleared data of carier services and samsung messages and it didnt help. Perhaps it's really a server side limitation and I just neeed to wait until I'm allowed to register samsung messages again.

It started to work for me in about 1 week. I left it, didn't touch it. It's an automatic stupid timeout Google RCS has to stop abuse if there's any.

Hi all.

I have the same issue where i try to turn the chat features on Samsung messages and get the same error message "registration failed"

I have been able to use chat features on Samsung messages without any issues before but over the weekend i downloaded Google messages and set that as my default messaging app where the chat features were enable. After using it for a day or so i didn't like how it was operating so i switched back to Samsung messages but then swapped it back to Google messages to give it another go.

I then swapped back to Samsung messages and now i'm having the "registration failed" error message pop up.

I've tried nearly every trouble shoot there is;

spoken with Samsung, factory reset twice, new sim card and spoken with my service provider and it's still being an issue.

Is it because I've swapped between the messaging apps to often and my phone number is registered now with Google messages and i need to wait a week or so to allow my number to be de-registered from Google messages as already suggested?

Any advice will be great, Thanks.

Still no luck here.

Couple of weeks ago I've disabled chat features here https://messages.google.com/disable-chat and after a while samsung chat features was enabled but didn't actually work. OTOH google messages registered and worked every time. I've disabled google messages since and and tried to disable chat features on the link above but it says that I've requested confirmation code too many times and should try again later. It's been like so for two weeks and samsung messages still fails to register for chat features.

Today I enabled google messages and it registered for chat features.

I'm thinking of giving up on chat features because it smells like google is trying to promote their messaging app and services.

I found this response from Samsung on another group so i guess it makes sense.

"Based on analysis of the attached log, we can see that the device has reached a monthly/daily quota for OTP set by the server (Google), which results in the 'registration failed' error message to occur. This message typically occurs when the device has been restarted multiple times, or multiple RCS switches has occurred. As this is a feature implemented by Google RCS server, this is normal operation."
