Dear Samsung Community,

It has come to my attention, and that of many other users, that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, particularly those with Exynos 2200 processors, is experiencing severe hardware failures following the One UI updates. These phones are being rendered completely unusable, stuck in a booting loop, and unable to power on.

Key Issues Identified:

  1. Overheating Leading to Motherboard Failure:

    • The phone overheats, particularly when using Wi-Fi.
    • Users report that once the phone begins disconnecting Wi-Fi automatically, the damage to the motherboard has already occurred.
  2. One UI Update Triggering Failures:

    • The issues seem to be exacerbated by the 6.1 One UI update, which appears to stress the motherboard components beyond their tolerance, leading to irreversible damage.
  3. Warranty Expiration Problem:

    • Many users are left helpless because the issues typically manifest after the warranty period ends, leaving them with expensive repairs or the need to purchase a new phone.
  4. No Official Acknowledgment from Samsung:

    • Despite numerous user complaints across platforms like Reddit, Samsung forums, and other tech communities, Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge or address this problem.

Call to Action:

As a dedicated Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra user, I, like many others, invested significant time and money in purchasing this flagship device. For example, I personally pre-ordered the phone, waited four months for delivery, and paid approximately €1,450. I expected a premium product, not a device that fails due to a software update and poor hardware design.

Therefore, I urge all Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra users facing similar issues to:

  1. Join forces and collectively address this issue to Samsung's CEO and executive team.
  2. Demand accountability from Samsung, including:
    • A global recall of affected devices.
    • Free motherboard replacements for all impacted phones, regardless of warranty status.
    • Alternatively, financial compensation for those who purchased these defective devices.

This Is Not Normal:

Samsung must acknowledge that their software updates directly contributed to the motherboard failures. It is unacceptable that users are left to bear the costs of repairing or replacing a flagship device due to Samsung’s oversight.

A United Front:

Together, we can amplify our voices and ensure that Samsung takes responsibility for this issue. It is time for them to address the concerns of their loyal customers who trusted them to deliver a reliable product.

Let’s work together to bring this matter to the attention of Samsung’s leadership. Every affected user deserves resolution, not silence.

Best regards,
[A Concerned Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra User]

Try a soft reboot

Hold the Power button and volume down until your phone shuts off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.

Greetings, first post so be gentle if repeated.

I had the same issue on my 2 year old ultra 22S bought new from samsung after march security update. i think it is a motherboard issue as it does get hot unnecessarily after update.

There is an excellent app called Device info HW with will list all parameters of the device including cpu temps.

I have the Snapdragon8 Gen 1 chipset.

My solution , I tried safe mode . nope.

I got a clue on a reboot when it asked me which launcher i wanted to use, the Samsshit launcher is not compatible with this update or one of my apps. It disabled the nova luncher in one reboot but once i got it to take it has been stable in airplane with wifi.

So, I am using Nova 7 launcher  with airplane for now so that I can get my data off to a new phone. So far, no crashing until I take my device out of airplane mode.

All apps seem to be working except cellphone related, obviously.

I hope this helps someone else to get data off the device to a new one.

This is very disappointing after owning more than 10 Samsung flagship phones.

I started reading about the new S25 and ill pass with all the problems it is having.

I will not be getting the 25, maybe the older 24 after some research.

Hi,

I agree with you. There should be more we can do. I am not sure this is coincidence. I just paid off my device with 02 network fully. It costed me £1185. 2 days after I got  my update notification and my phone started rebutting itself. I bought the phone in Jul 2023. It is discussing that the organisation takes no responsibility for this. With that being said I also think that Samsung Web is not necessarily correct forum to address this. I think this will need to go public via other media then this Web. Most of people with this issue may not be able to access this forum :(. I think that the brand quality is decreasing drastically and no longer provides good value for the money.

I used to value this brand and I therefore own and owned  multiple products over the past 20 years. This will not continue. I can also assure you that I will no longer use the brand. My my kitchen oven didn't even make it till the end of the warranty before panel stopped working and when the company reps came to fix it with new panel, wifi was already gone on the new one :(. This also did not last since the repair.

I have just received 6.1 update notification on my Samsung Galaxy  Tab S9 Plus tablet and I rejected it, because at this stage I am terrified that this will leave me with no mobile device to use.

I also found 6.1 update causing the same issue for the tablet on this web :A9+ tablet issues after 6.1 update - Samsung Community

I am now convinced that this is linked to the company marketing plan. I don't believe in this being coincidence.

The company must take the responsibility. Those of you who paid by credit card or loan my be able to get through  this with financial ombudsman. I am not so lucky anymore. It may be worth considering Consumer Rights: Consumer rights - GOV.UK

I hope this helps someone.

This has just happened to my wife's phone after the latest update. I bought it for her two years ago and still have a year to pay in the finance but it is now out of warranty so now she is left with a bricked phone which can't be used and still owe £325 on the finance. At this stage it is now cheaper to settle the finance and get a new deal than it is to have the phone repaired. It now worries me about updating my phone which is also an S22 Ultra. I think our next phones will be Google Pixels.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. I was able using my method to get my data off the device and foolishly. I went up to the Galaxy. S25 ultra, because it is running the current operating system. Furthermore, the new Galaxy's are doing a partition drive. When they do update so they don't have this problem. Which is a very interesting solution? I don't think the 24 or earlier has that feature? I think they recognize now this is a big problem and the updates for 1 UI 7 have been delayed repeatedly when they have a stable release for my old phone, the Galaxy 22 ultra. I will do the update and pray that it gets rid of the constant on off cycle. If not, I will be factory, resetting it and then I hope it will work again.

I managed to back up the data from the device by letting the battery run down and letting it cool. I tried a factory reset but the problem came back as soon as I tried to activate the WiFi. Once the phone is warmed up it just gets stuck in an infinite loop of rebooting.

I have done the same trick by putting the phone in the refrigerator and it works until the device gets to room temperature. However, I do believe there is also a problem with the apps conflicting with the March update, and the Nova. 7 launcher keeps it working

longer before it starts to crash. I'm glad

you got your data off. It's a drag that you

didn't have it paid off. Luckily, I'd buy my

phones in full beforehand and this purchase from Samsung directly in u. S.A. I got Samsung care and I bought it from them directly. So that if there's a problem, they can eat the phone

I also faced this issue on my S22 ultra. Firstly My device was starting freezing and restarting randomly like 2 to 3 times a day. Then suddenly one day it continuously restarting itslef again and again like 8 to 10 times and after that phone never switched on. I faced this issue after updating it to One Ui 7 and may security update before that i was using my device perfectly, there was no single issue regarding anything.

I visited the service center and after 2 days they told me that there is motherboard fault and battery fault on my device, and repairing cost is 44 k aprrox.

I just got frusted after listening it, i mean whose fult it was, Since this issue occured after updating it One UI 7

samsung should take responsibility about this we payed lots of money and it was your falgship device., samsung cannot deny just saying that your device is out of warranty.

I want my device back to normal since it was not my fault otherwise i have to take action against samsung.

This is unethical
