I'm on the edge here of sending the s22u back to samsung, too many niggling issues which may or may not be fixed with future software updates. Thinking of going for a device with a known chipset (8gen1 - Oppo find X5 pro)

Now, I'm hoping return should be simple enough but I got this device on finance, and also sent my note 9 in as part exchange. Also have the buds pro claim approved (awaiting dispatch) and have used the 12 months of Disney+ offer.

If I send it back, what happens regarding my note 9, the buds if they turn up and the disney subscription?

I'm assuming the finance agreement is just cancelled and my deposit payment returned?

Will lose out on about £100 of accessories but that can't be helped.

I wonder if it would be more beneficial to sell on the device and recoup costs that way?

I would have used Samsung live chat service to get answers but they are useless and the phoneline takes an age to get through.

Maybe you should get Samsung screen protector and see if the if that fixes your fingerprint issue, third party protectors don't always work

I have already tried and posted a review on here about the official Samsung screen protector.

Basically it's unfit for purpose as it doesn't adhere properly to the curve of the screen. It's also unsuitable for Spen use due to the additional friction and marks left on the protector.

Fingerprint scanner works with it though.

In process of trying to get a refund from Samsung

I thought you said you had tried a Whitestone screen protector? My mistake

I have tried both :smiling-face:

Whitestone first then Samsung screen protector. Had to remove that as it kept peeling at the curve and the Spen didn't feel nice to use...

Have gone back to Whitestone for now until Samsung can produce one that is actually suitable for use or a third party does one that allows use of fingerprint scanner.

Wow. I think those conditions won't prove legal in a UK Court. Grossly unfair and potentially you are refusing to refund the actual value of the order in most cases.

The key for people is to initiate return on day 14 because you actually have another 14 days to return the item. 28 days through UK distant selling regulation or 21 days if you want Samsung to fleece you.

I'm likely to abandon Samsung altogether next year or before the S22U loses most of its resell value. I'll never be duped by Samsung's very dirty marketing again!

I hate Apple but my next phone will definitely be an iPhone after years of disappointment from Samsung

I agree. I don't have all those problems but I still think the S22U wasn't worth upgrading to... Its actually worse in most ways than the S21U!!

Let me know if you manage to turn profit with selling it as I'm itchy to abandon the shipwreck that is Samsung!

Have you spoken to Samsung about this?

Explain about it as it's still under warranty.

Are you able to return it for a replacement of the same handset?

Ha, have you tried contacting Samsung lately? It's a joke and after the long long wait you get someone who either can't help or doesn't understand...

For example, I contacted them about their screen protector on the live chat... after a while I got an agent, I explained the situation and he said I had to go to my local samsung store (over an hour away) for an engineer to look at my £7 screen protector to see if it was lifting at the curve!

After explaining that it was ridiculous to do this, he said send it back for a refund... what, peel it off and send you back a used plastic screen protector? Yes, that's the only way to get my £7 back minus postage.

Of course I'm not going to do this, it's only £7 but it shows what the customer service is like...

I know we've spoken quite extensively in regards to the screen protectors you've tried @Madfish  👍

As you know I have the Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector on my Samsung Galaxy s²² Ultra 256gb and it works 99% of the time.

I've used this on all my phone's apart from the Fold³ as the glass one is currently unavailable.

Check but I do think Whitestone offer a guarantee on their products and may send you another.

An alternative might be to use a case that has some kind of protection with it so no immediate need to use a screen protector. Obviously this is entirely your choice to use a screen protector or not.

Many of the problem's your encountering appear to be software issues that Samsung need to be updated about regularly from users so they act upon them.

Not so sure on the speaker issue your experiencing though.

The more people that send this type of feedback should mean Samsung act.

I appreciate also the viewpoint that a Samsung Flagship phone should just work out of the box, but there are so many variables that play a part here in regards to what people download onto their phone's and how they transfer their previous information etc.

But that said primary systems should work.

I use Bluetooth everyday on my phone to connect a couple of different Samsung Buds and two Samsung watches and a Samsung Smart Tag and it's stable. It hasn't disconnected or dropped out once.

It's a conundrum why some people's phone's are fine and some are not.

I could better understand this is say this was happening with the first batch of phone's for most people but it isn't.

So you have a personal difficult choice to make so close to your option of returning within the 21 day cooling off period.

It's my 21st day too.

It is in tbe Terms a person agrees to that Samsung will endeavour to return a traded in phone but can't guarantee this and such instead provide a refund to what they see as the current value.

I'm keeping my phone as it's not let me down once although I choose not to Game on my phone's so I can't comment on that aspect.

One of the members mentioned asking for a replacement which is a good idea you could consider.

If you do request a collection for refund then anything that came as a promotion will need to be returned and any promotional streaming service will most probably cancel. You would have to check the small print for the Disney+ offer.

If you do decide to sell it then you may lose out if the price you recieve is less than it's on paper value as it's second hand.

Please please be very careful if you decide to sell on places like ebay !

Places in the UK such as CEX, Game, Trade Me In and Cash Converters etc buy phone's but never give it's true value. 🙄

Personally I wouldn't entertain selling on auction sites.

I usually sell to family members,  friends or work colleague's.

In regards to the different SoC variants of phone's.

Take it from me that isn't the end of all by buing a phone with a SnapDragon SoC in it. I've had both types of uk Samsung phones and imported Samsung SnapDragon SoC phone's.

I wish you all the best with how you decide to proceed.

I appreciate your reply and thank you for your help so far.

Not sure why I'm having so much trouble with the Whitestone, I have contacted them for advice. I wonder if maybe I'm just not compatible with under display scanners (fingers too dry etc) and would see this issue on any of the modern flagships.

I run a case on the s22u as they seem quite fragile which I'm fine with but one that covers the screen negates the features of the phone that I bought it for, Spen, large clear bright 1440p screen etc... so I'll just have to wait to see what screen protectors are released in the future.

Yes, regarding the trade in it is probably in the small print etc. And nothing I can do about it but what would be fair by Samsung would be to allow the full 21 day period before requiring the trade in device even if that meant holding off on the discount being applied...

In reality, Samsung are only allowing you 7 days to return your phone not 21 as once your trade in has left it looks like it's gone.

8gen1 has its share of problems I agree but it's much better supported by the community and gaming developers...

In the end I don't think my device is faulty, its just bugs and software limitations that may be fixed in the future.

It certainly has left a sour taste in my mouth though, I've been with Samsung since the OmniaHD, had quite a few note devices from the Note 2 and a few S series in between...

Samsung, it's been a blast but you're dropping the ball now...
