Twice my S22 Ultra has ran out of battery and died, then when I plug the charger in the phone doesn't start charging and only show's the screen with a grey circle and lighting bolt. I've somehow managed to get it charging by repeatedly pressing the power button. Has anyone else encountered this?

I had the same problem happen multiple times. Solution is to hold power and volume down button until the logo disappears and it will restart automatically showing 1% charge. After this step it continues charging. Hopefully Samsung fixes this bug or else the phone is unusable when this happens even with charging wire plugged in for days.

It happened twice to me in a week on my S22 Ultra. After reading many blogs, mostly useless, I realised that the sequence to eliminate this issue is:

  1. Before plugging the phone in, force a phone restart with the power on and volume down keys pressed for 8 seconds
  2. Once you get the Samsung logo on your screen, connect the cable to the device. It will start charging and show a 1% battery life.

If you reboot the phone with the cable plugged in, it will not work. At least it did not work for me.

Indeed, this is either a malfunction or a software bug, for which Samsung should provide a solution.

Yes, I have this issue. It's not always the case where I am able to charge so on occasion it will die. It just sticks on the lightning screen for 30+mins before it even begins to charge

I am having same problem here. I've just read some comments and I didn't know that I can't run out of battery or else it's a struggle to charge it, I thought it was a malfunction as I left it over 20 min and there were no sign of charging, I start plug-in and unplugging and eventually start charging don't know how.
I had a S20 ultra before and I have never had this problem, many times I stayed without battery (as it didn't last long) and as soon as I plug-in will charge.
For the price of this phone I think it should be better.

I know this is a very late reply but I hope this helps someone in the future who has just had the same problem as me. My phone died last night when I fell asleep watching netflix. I put it on charge in the morning and just had the grey circle with the lightning bolt. Every solution in this thread didn't do anything to help my phone unfortunately. I left it plugged in for a while and nothing, I force restarted and nothing, I tried connecting it to the computer and holding buttons and nothing.

All I did was decide to just leave it on my wireless charger and for some strange reason it just started charging.

Thank you!! Literally the only comment that says to unplug it first, worked first try once I did.

Still pretty ridiculous a $1000+ phone has that issue...

I just had this problem happen to me with my galaxy S22 Ultra, where at 5% battery my phone would not charge. I didn't realize that was happening until it reached 0% and shut down. When I plugged it in it only showed the lightening bolt and a grey circle. I waited about 20 minutes and it still was not charging.

After going through this thread the method that ended up working for me is as follows:

1. Unplug phone from charger (yes unplug it)

2. Hard reset by holding the DOWN volume button and POWER buttons at the same time.

3. After the phone boots up past the SAMSUNG logo QUICKLY plug in your phone.

If you have the same results as me you will hear that wonderful sound of the phone finally charging.

I tried several other methods before this one all while the phone was plugged in to the charger and they never worked. Hopefully this helps someone.

Yes. I just wait (angryly) for a 3-5 minutes, and then I "wake the dead phone" by pressing simultaneously power and volume up or down button for a hard reboot. Sometimes it starts charging from 0% with the 1st attempt, other times on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Never had any issues like this with all my previous galaxy phones (since S3).
