My phone starts fine and then operates normally, but after a few minutes use the screen becomes unresponsive to touch/swipe etc. Only solution is to keep forcing a restart so I can use for a short while.
I've tried starting in Safe mode and the have the same issue.
The screen must be ok as it works for a while, but why does it suddenly become unresponsive?
Any help appreciated

Bring it to a shop
Might be the flex cable
Or they might have to change the Charging ribbon

To anyone in the future looking at this thread, yes, it does seem like the ultimate solution is to bring your phone to a service shop and ask for a change of the flex cable
(which is the cable that connects the touchscreen with the rest of your phone, as far as I understand it, save you a google search there)
I had to make this reply especially because when I tried to ask them to replace the flex cable specifically, the service shops I went to recommended me that I should replace with a new touchscreen.
DO NOT be persuaded. I was convinced, and replaced my touchscreen, and they kept the old flex cable when making the change.
The unresponsive touchscreen problem came back roughly 3 hours later.
I asked for a flex cable change for real this time, and phone has been functioning normally for a day, as of when I write this reply.
(Please do inform me if the problem comes back for you after you change the flex cable while keeping the old touchscreen though)
I wish I could actually know which service shops are good in my area. I don't mean to blame the shop I replaced my screen, maybe they were unfamiliar with this particular problem with A72 as well.
tldr, ask SPECIFICALLY for a flex cable change, nothing else.
(kinda wish the original poster could change the solution. Or maybe they can't because it can only be done once or by a moderator or something, which is lame)

This is not the solution. The comment should have been updated. It's a flex defect with the Samsung A72. Water sips in from the charge port and damages the flex. The water resistant of the phone is very poor. Happened twice when under a bit of rain dews. First time they changed the screen. But second time seems to become a regular problem of the phone. All they need to do is change the flex and maybe charging port that damages the flex. Don't let water touch the charging port going forward. It's a defective series

This is the right solution. Flex and charging port. Water droplet on the charging port damages it. It's a A72 defect. Happened twice now. If caught in d rain. Make sure your charging port is facing down and don't charge your phone for a while. That damages the flex.

This is true. The only solution is for a change of the flex cable. This issue is caused as a result of a firmware upgrade incompatible with the flex cable or damages it.
