Hello,
I've bought my Samsung Odyssey G7 two months ago and experienced no issues until last week.
Since then, when HDR is activated through the monitor configuration menu, sometimes it happens, that while playing Star Wars Squadrons, Dota 2 or just watching a Twitch Stream, the screen turns black for 5 seconds, and comes back showing the message: Display Port 1 (HDR).
That happens randomly with no explicit event happening before.
When SDR is activated, no problems appear.
All cables are tight and in place, I already switched the display ports. Messages still pop up and screen turns black.
Does anybody experience the same issue or know what's the problem with it?
Latest firmware from 04.09.2020 was installed with USB-drive, monitor drivers are up to date.
Windows version is 2004 (19041.508).
Thank you in advance

Still at the end of 2021 I'm getting blackscreens randomly when gaming, watching movies or just surfing on the web with HDR enabled 😞
No graphic card or samsung driver fixed it until today.

@kenryubr Make sure windows has the samsung set as "Display 1" under 'Windows HD Color Settings'. That change alone fixed a few problems I was running into. Also, perhaps try checking the G7 alone by disabling your other monitor.

Hi @CarlH ,
I tested some cables for HDMI that I have and didn't work.
Now I bought 2 cables to test.
For USB-C to DisplayPort it worked for 144Hz, turning the monitor off and on.
But my USB-C port is only compatible with my onboard Intel graphics. When I tried to play some games it got flickering.
For the new HDMI 2.1 cable, it still didn't work for 144Hz. I need to change to 60Hz to turn on and then I can change to 144Hz. HDR works too.

@Kaifune as I'm using a laptop, I cannot disable properly my monitor to set Samsung as Display1. I tried to display only the Samsung, disabling the laptop's monitor, but when I tried to turn on at 144hz it still doesn't work. I always have to change to 60Hz and after that I can change to 144Hz.

I can assure you that cable replacements will not fix the issue. It's not cable related at all. It's directly the result of the monitor struggling with HDR settings.

Windows 11 does not fix it completely. It still will happen but I've gotten to a place where it rarely does. When it does the black screen flicker and toggles between HDR and non-HDR, my fix is to turn off the Samsung monitor and allow all of my applications to go to my 2nd, non-HDR monitor. Then I turn the Samsung back on and it will bring the HDR application back to it, and it seems to not occur anymore (at least while playing that specific game). A similar workaround had some level of success for me with Windows 10, but wouldn't take the black screen away completely.

Sorry for the delay in response, I haven't tried to use only 1 monitor. But when I use the monitors with my non-HDR laptop, I've never had the issue. So I can only presume your workaround is valid. Windows 11 has seemed to help a little bit, I turn the monitor off then on when the flickering happens and then it sort of understands that it's in HDR mode and doesn't try to switch.

Hello, I've got the same issue, mainly when my brave browser is open. Seems like it is a Nvidia driver related issue tho. I tried updating my nvidia drivers to the lastest to date (497.29) and the problem appears randomly. I need to go back all the way to driver version 472.12 to not have the issue anymore. Hope that helps while nvidia fixes it.

I've had this issue for a while too. I tried to buy a new 1.4 DP cable and the issue got worse 😞 so I spent a little more and got a 2.0 (16k) cable. Since I have not had the issue.
My guess is that 240hz and 2k is hitting the limits of what a 1.4 cable can support and adding HDR pushes it over the limit occasionally.
I'll update if the issue returns while using the 2.0 cable.
Edit It did the flicker thing again so the cable helps but doesn't solve the problem... I also turned on local dimming (and it never happened while on) I turned if off while watching something and that's when the HRD switch triggered so might be a coincidence but try turning local dimming on see if that helps

I've asked on NVIDIA forums, they told me to try Studio drivers version 511.09 for my graphic card, and it works perfectly now!
