Odyssey G7 menu button intermittently not working

My #Samsung Odyssey G7 is around a year old, and recently it's been giving me problems

The main menu button on the back of the monitor sometimes, seemingly at random, fails to respond. Toggling the joystick left brings up the source menu, and down brings up volume. Left toggle does nothing, and the pressing the main menu button does not being up the menu.

Strangely, when scrolling through available sources, the directional buttons are inverted.

Holding down the menu button to put the monitor on standby (and get rid of the flashing light) also does nothing.

I have to pull the power cord instead, and this seems to reset the monitor and brings back menu functionality for a little while.

The sources that it uses are two HDMI sources (I have to swap cables when I want to use either device) and a Display Port source.

I am hoping to update the firmware to see if this fixes it, but as I am stuck on my work laptop (the Display Port input), I can't use a USB. Since I now can't switch source to my home PC without any kind of control, this will be an issue to update.

The button is not stuck, nor did it receive a bump or knock that may have broken it.

This is a real pain, and I'd rather not have to send my monitor (that I rely on for work and play) off for a few weeks/months if I can fix something on my end.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Except when I downloaded the update, it cured my problem. So you come on, what am I expected to say? Since then it's been the perfect monitor.

I can only speak for my own situation, but I had the same as you more or less, the jog button seemed to do nothing though now and again it would bring the menu up, which had partial functionality. After trying suggestions on here including hitting it hard! I downloaded the latest update from the Samsung site and uploaded via the USB port. Cured it completely, that was 12 months ago and no issues since. Some on here say they have done that with no effect, so maybe it's a mix of actually physical failure or just an update required, Samsung have been woeful on this though and have done next to nothing to help. The firmware update worked for me though.

I mistakenly thought I had repaired the monitor by disconnecting it from the power supply. Then I read that the jog button sometimes gets stuck and you have to press it in all directions until it comes loose again. But the jog button was broken again. It's 100% not the software, but the physical damage to the button. I replaced the button and it works again. Since the button will break again at some point, I put the button board outside the monitor so I don't have to open the monitor anymore and risk damaging the monitor case. By the way, it's pretty easy to open it, there are several youtube videos. What's funny tho, is that the samsung service charges ~300-400€ for replacing the motherboard, I think they don't change the whole motherboard, instead just the jogbutton board.

The product number of the Jog Button is the BN96-42664B for the G7 or in my case G7a.Screenshot 2025-01-07 at 11.43.13.png
