XBOX Series X - Q80T Game Mode Issues

So I received my Xbox Series X today, connected it to HDMI 4 using the bundled HDMI 2.1 cable and everything was fine until...I tried to play a game. Settings on the console were 4K, 120hz with HDR10 on auto and VRR enabled. As soon as I start a game my Q80T (55 inch) disconnects from the Xbox and shows a no signal error. From here I can press the Xbox button on the controller and switch apps and then I get significant screen tearing and flickering in menus.

As soon as I disable VRR on the Xbox it works fine. Hoping someone else has tested this with other cables or can offer solutions.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8-6DmN9Gw4&feature=youtu.be was able to demonstrate that 4K 120hz with Freesync was possible on PC, so I'm hoping an update to TV or Xbox firmware will sort it out.

Edit: as Kyljaiden pointed out, some regions have version 1403 firmware. To clarify, I'm in Australia and we do not have that firmware update as yet and are stuck on 1402. Need to wait for confirmation from another user that 1403 replicates the 120hz VRR issues.

Edit2: Daparky shared this link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_console/known-issues-on-xbox-series-xs/221c9d7f-d... confirming that Microsoft are aware of the issues.

Edit3: SOLVED - a number of users have reported that 1403 firmware fixes the issue I've detailed. Unfortunately some regions do not have access to this firmware yet and will simply need to wait until Samsung push out the updates locally.

It's new technology, it will need some time for the bugs to be patched out. Unfortunately this happens with early adoption, but in time it will be fixed I'm sure.

I'm sure indeed this will be fixed - They have no choice really because if they don't they will simply lose the market.

By the way, this is what I experience with all games on my Q70:

Everyone, I have just received an update from Samsung Support - The issue has been escalated to Tier 2 Support and someone will apparently contact me in 1-2 business days.

I recommend everyone sends an email to Samsung Support so they can better fix the issue:

Counselor answer

Dear M.,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics Australia.

I hope you are well. We apologise for the inconvenience this issue with the TV has caused you. We appreciate you for taking the time to give us your feedback about our TV.

We do not have any updates yet, when will the next software for this TV model be available. Please consider the following steps below to help us isolate and resolve the issue:

1. VPR with Game Mode On should work if your Console or PC supports HDMI 2.1.
2. VPR with Game Mode On should also work If you are using HDMI 2.1 Cable.
3. If you are using HDMI 2.0 cable, please set the Game Mode to OFF as even with Freesync or Gsync supported graphic cards will not work in game Mode with VRR enabled.

Additionally, please try to connect the external device to HDMI4 (especially if the external device supports HDMI 2.1 connection and uses HDMI 2.1 cable).

In line with this, I have forwarded your case to our Tier 2 Support for follow-up and to assist you with your TV and see if the recommended troubleshooting worked. Kindly keep your lines open as they will be contacting you within 1-2 business days using the number on file.

That's such a generic response. Ideally they just tell us when the 1403 update will be available in Australia. I didn't buy this TV to not use game mode...

I would just like to know when firmware Ver 1403 will be available in Australia, we pay a lot of money for these TV's and the selling point being the HDMI 2.1 and now it doesn't work properly, very disappointing Samsung!

Had the issues but might hve found a temporary fix for those without Firmware 1402.

Turn off  ‘Input Signal Plus’ for the HDMI port and Game mode on the TV.
