XBOX Series X - Q80T Game Mode Issues

So I received my Xbox Series X today, connected it to HDMI 4 using the bundled HDMI 2.1 cable and everything was fine until...I tried to play a game. Settings on the console were 4K, 120hz with HDR10 on auto and VRR enabled. As soon as I start a game my Q80T (55 inch) disconnects from the Xbox and shows a no signal error. From here I can press the Xbox button on the controller and switch apps and then I get significant screen tearing and flickering in menus.

As soon as I disable VRR on the Xbox it works fine. Hoping someone else has tested this with other cables or can offer solutions.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8-6DmN9Gw4&feature=youtu.be was able to demonstrate that 4K 120hz with Freesync was possible on PC, so I'm hoping an update to TV or Xbox firmware will sort it out.

Edit: as Kyljaiden pointed out, some regions have version 1403 firmware. To clarify, I'm in Australia and we do not have that firmware update as yet and are stuck on 1402. Need to wait for confirmation from another user that 1403 replicates the 120hz VRR issues.

Edit2: Daparky shared this link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_console/known-issues-on-xbox-series-xs/221c9d7f-d... confirming that Microsoft are aware of the issues.

Edit3: SOLVED - a number of users have reported that 1403 firmware fixes the issue I've detailed. Unfortunately some regions do not have access to this firmware yet and will simply need to wait until Samsung push out the updates locally.

Hey

It has significantly improved in the last firmware update (1403) but I woudnt say it has completely gone. personally I would still get the Q80T as its a fantastic TV all round and I know samsung and xbox are aware of the problem. in some games it isn't even noticeable at all. its your call but it doesn't in anyway ruin the TV and if it bothers you in the meantime you can disable VRR

I have the Q80T, running 1403 firmware and have no issues. I run 120Hz with VRR on. I have tested the following games.

  • Call of Duty Cold War
  • Assassins Creed Valhalla
  • Dirt 5
  • Hallo MCC
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Gears Tactics
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
  • Star War Squadrons
  • Ori & the will f the wisps
  • Need for Speed Heat
  • FIFA 20
  • Unravel
  • Daytona
  • Tetris

The majority of Samsung TV users (Like me) who had their initial issues fixed when updating to 1403 firmware. I think those of you who still have an issue when using 1403 firmware either have a faulty cable, of a faulty HDMI game port. I would be asking Samsung to replace tv if issues continue.

Tested turning off game mode and VRR, and no I cant access game motion settings even with VRR off as well, and with 120hz with game mode & VRR on I cant still access it either, but I don't use that setting anyway, here is what I have;

I am running Xbox series x on 55" Q80T with 1403 firmware and have no flashing at all, I can run in 120Hz with VRR on, I also have the intelligent mode on, game mode set to on (not auto) and on the Xbox display setting under video modes I have everything ticked apart from Dolby Vision, under video fidelity & Overscan settings I have colour depth at 10bit and colour space at standard.

Lv 2 tech support said yesterday that  we should be able to access these settings once game mode and vrr is off regardless of hz mode.

Thanks for your help mircosoft tech is looking into my flicker issue but I think you nailed it on the head bad port on the tv time for a rma or change to the sony x950h I was playing AC last night on 120hz mode VRR off which this is what mircosoft says is the work around for  now but it was still doing it to me kept flicking on and off but 60hz mode everything works

Just out of curiosity, have you tried a factory reset on TV? Also run the HDMI checker in the Device Care setting of your TV
