Smart TV continually restarting

Hopefully someone can help/advise on the problem I've got with my Smart TV (UE40D5520RKXXU).

A few days ago the remote was used to power the TV up but it wouldn't get passed the start-up screen switching itself off then trying to restart reaching the same point and shutting down and restarting again, this just goes on and on.

Now the power is switched off as it won't start but when the power is switched on it automatically tries to start but fails every time as above.

The TV is about 6 years old, in perfect condition, I'd like to keep it but only if it's going to cost a reasonable amount to sort out.

Last year this same thing happend and I opened the back up to have a look around to see if anything obvious was wrong and with a many power on/offs it started up, much to my surprise, so the back was re-attached and we had been using it without any problems for the last 8 months.

Could the problem be in the software or is it a power supply problem? Hopefully someone can come up with a suggestion or two.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds a great solution 🤣🤣 P.S. My TV has done boot-loop about four times in this past 5 years (ES8005, 2012 model - fairly old!) and for now, I have been able to fix it somehow. Next time I will try your solution (hammer)

I had the same issue with a Hi-Sense tv. Different brand, I know, but I have a feeling the internals are all made by the same companies.

TV would turn on and display the Hi Sense Roku TV logo, then turn off. Then turn on again, display the logo and turn off (like a computer stuck in a reboot loop)

I opened it up and took some voltage readings, found the high voltage capacitor was storing around 350 volts even when unplugged, so please don't mess with this if you don't know what you're doing.

I know how to safely discharge it, so did that, then plugged the tv back in. Pressing the on button (either on the remote or the physical one on the tv - doesn't matter), the tv came on normally. Once turning it off, and back on it got stuck in the loop again.

This was after having the Hi Sense authorized technicians come out twice (once during the initial warranty period and once again after the warranty period, because I told them they did not fix it the first time.)

Both times they replaced three boards: power, main and display.

This last time I decided it's not likely to be one of those boards having failed three times, so started looking around inside. Unplugged the wifi (never used it anyway), the display board and the backlight wires.

Powered it up and I could tell by the red LED that it was having the same problem (the red light flashes, then stops, then turns off, then starts flashing again. Loop continues)

Finally purchased a replacement IR board on eBay for $9.50  (tiny circuit board inside the plastic bubble under the tv that contains the IR sensor and physical push button)

I had already tested the push button with an ohmmeter and it seemed ok.

Plugging in the new IR board and powering up the tv it came on as normal. Have turned it on and off a few times over the last few hours and no problems.

I believe the problem is solved.

Hats off.👐 You have seen so amazingly much effort just because of your tv. Hopefully it will work in the future😊

My TV is doing the exact same thing. Even after it's powered off and power plug pulled out of the socket it carries on clicking on and off.  So I keep it disconnected from power source and leave it for hours then plug it in again and sometimes it starts properly. Success of this method is only 50:50 frustratingly.

Exact same problem here. I had service centre replace main PB board and it was ok for a while but now doing it again. Even after pulling plug on power source it carries on clicking on and off so I leave it unplugged for few hours and sometimes it starts up again properly. This has been going on for months . There are periods when it seems to have resolved itself but then the 'starter motor' - or whatever it is - jams again and we're back in trouble.

This worked for me. When I powered up the TV, I held the power button down instead of releasing it for about a minute. I did this about a year ago and the problem has not recurred since.

Did you even read the original post? The guy is stick on the startup screen. There is no option to enter a menu.

Who said anything about a menu? I pressed and held the physical power button on the edge of the TV for about a minute.

Hello Jim, was it a national TV repairer you used? Regards, Rich

Hi. On my TV, an UE55H7005, the boot loop problem was fixed by disconnecting the BLU pin from the power board. I followed the instructions on a similar TV model, here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R9eYReE2bI
