Q80T:Xbox One X:Game Mode: Faint vertically scrolling lines?

Hi all,

On the new firmware I’m finally able to get a good picture on game mode BUT there seem to be faint vertical scrolling lines. Almost looks like when you’d record an old CRT but obviously not that exaggerated. Can be seen on dark grayish scenes especially.

Oddly enough, this goes away if I turn on game motion plus which I don’t want to have to do. It also doesn’t happen in any of the non-game modes.

Any ideas?

Interesting having tried my switch ASWELL as Xbox, there are lines visible with the switch, they just don't move or 'scroll' upwards. It's very odd behaviour for a TV...

As a sidenote, I left a few lengthy messages in that other disaster of a chat. I'm awaiting a call from Samsung tomorrow to arrange collection of my UK 55q90t. I have had all issues described in these threads...dark VRR, scrolling lines etc.

You going for different model or to ask about a fix how long you had your Samsung,I had the x900h and friend has x95,and they are nowhere near as good even with Q90T issues only TV any good is lgcx on par with Samsung but that has issues as well..

I'm hoping someone can see these game mode issues and help but I'm beyond a return time .

Well I'm going to go back to my Sony 49xf9005. The Samsung is the best LED currently available for gaming, oled is really a no go. However, £1299 for a TV which may not work correctly with my next gen console isn't really something I'm happy to settle for.

I think I'll wait to see if these issues get fixed, or wait until next year's screens. My guessing is next year's screens won't have these issues, as these initial HDMI 2.1 bugs will be hopefully fixed by then.

I have also the lines that goes from bottom to top of screen. Lines are present at any source that have Game mode on and GMP off. And with DSE of Q90T panel my screen looks like covered with grid. 😞

I just posted this in that other group:

I have learnt a few interesting things. It seems to me all the issues are down to how the TV deals with the incoming FPS of the source.

On the Xbox you can change the video output from 'automatic' to either manual HDMI or DVI. If you change to HDMI, the screen defaults to 640p 60HZ, and disables HDR. Oddly, in this configuration, setting the TV to 1080p 120 mode does some magic things. Any sign of scrolling lines for me was gone, nothing. Additionally, the pixel overdrive seemed well tuned with minimal smearing and overshoot. In this mode however, the xbox doesn't allow you to enable 4k, and you get the message 'Your TV doesn't support this resolution'...

In conclusion, I have no idea how this TVs software works in relation to gaming devices.

This is interesting.  But, as far as I know, with the consoles I have I don't think it's something I can reproduce. It'd be cool to test though.  I'll have to fiddle around in their settings to check.

I have the same issue, faint translucent horizontal lines on panning scenes, a good example is on the series mandalorian ep. 3 - 08:36, on that scene you can see the problem. It happens on every mode on my case (Im using filmmaker mode) on a 1080p source.

Please samsung fix this before I sent back my tv.

Ok guys I was doing some test with my pc plugged into the tv and I can assure you that this is a hardware issue... is some kind of clouding in lines that comes from the edges of the tv, from the backlight, in all modes, in all hdmi ports and even on cable tv. If you can see your tv with a yellow background and look at the edges, you will see the backlight spilling from there, in lines.

If you decide to wait for a fix from samsung through a firmware you are going to be disappointed. I just returned mine this afternoon, this is a mayor issue for me.

I have a Samsung Q90T and have been experiencing the same issues with the faint scrolling horizontal lines/bars while playing on my Xbox One X.  I have only noticed this after upgrading to the latest 1402.6 firmware via USB.

This issue, as the original poster and others describe, only occurs with Game Mode ON and GMP OFF.  The issue does not seem to be present with GMP ON, but this is of little consolation to me as I can't play with GMP ON as I am very sensitive to the difference in input lag.

The issue varies in levels of visibility depending on the game, but I have found it most visible in Star Wars Squadrons, particularly the menu screen - I have captured this in a video here (most visible towards the bottom darker half of the screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4rjzrzrdvbxat16/IMG_6776.MOV?dl=0.

Hoping this can be fixed in a firmware update as this was not an issue before!

Yep, this is exactly the problem here.  Glad you were able to get it on camera.  I didn't have as much success and I now no longer own the Q80T as this issue was too difficult for me to ignore and considering we've only got the three pages of comments here, I worried that it would not be something to get fixed for a long time, if ever.
I wish those of you in this thread the best of luck with getting it resolved.
