Q80T:Xbox One X:Game Mode: Faint vertically scrolling lines?

Hi all,

On the new firmware I’m finally able to get a good picture on game mode BUT there seem to be faint vertical scrolling lines. Almost looks like when you’d record an old CRT but obviously not that exaggerated. Can be seen on dark grayish scenes especially.

Oddly enough, this goes away if I turn on game motion plus which I don’t want to have to do. It also doesn’t happen in any of the non-game modes.

Any ideas?

I have horizontal lines just like on Myyke's video. It is since 1115 firmware so don't know if they fix it, hope they will. I wish i return my Q90T when I could and go for Sony. Also DSE is terrible and in dark games blooming crushing blacks. 😞

This is just one of many issues I have found with this TV - extremely dark and blown out contrast picture when using VRR and really visible grid/dse effect, HDR dimming bug is still present even after the latest firmware (screen still dims after 6 mins).

I have never owned a TV with so many issues, I'm astounded that Samsung can actually continue to sell these as they are, and I have no faith in these issues being fixed anytime soon. I've decided to return this TV as it clearly isn't working as advertised.

No issues with VRR here: https://youtu.be/J8-6DmN9Gw4

Same issue here.

Q90T.
Faint lines constantly scrolling south to north in game mode. Worse with VRR enabled.

Has Samsung acknowledged this problem?
considering returning for a CX. Wasn’t sure if it was just my older Xbox One but seeing the same issue with X doesn’t bode well for the Series X fixing it either

I've contacted Samsung here in Canada 3 times now, each time they deny me speaking with someone from Technical Support, instead my only options are Customer Service or their respective Manager(s).  I've offered to document the exact issue, to provide any details and testing with the hope of engaging Engineering of some sort.  The best the Manager could suggest was to set the PS4 Pro or PS5 to RGB Limited... SMH  (obviously this had no impact at all and predictably muted the colours).  They are now insisting I have the mainboard replaced by a 3rd party, so they can rule out their "Step 1", before looking deeper into a possible software issue. This is after explaining to them and confirming the following:

ONLY when you enable Game Mode , (with Game Motion Plus disabled) can you see visible rolling scan lines. I can observe this on the PS4 Pro, PS5, and SNES Mini (so far). All other Picture modes do not suffer from rolling scan lines, nor do the internal apps like Netflix or YouTube.

However, with Game Mode enabled and Game Motion Plus enabled, these scan lines disappear.

The problem is, with GMP you add input lag which defeats the purpose of this TV; to buy a gaming TV with the lowest input lag.  I'm not sure visible scrolling scan lines is an acceptable trade off for low input lag.

And now we hear of so many others  reporting the exact same issue, this time with the XBOX SX & VRR enabled.

Oddly enough, i do not have this issue with the Nintendo Switch at all.  Its the only console I can have Game Mode enabled, GMP disabled, and no scanlines at all.   Input lag is excellent as you don't need GMP to hide the scanlines.

Like many others, it goes without saying I've tried a plethora of different HDMI cables (including a fibre optic HDMI to rule out interference), tried all HDMI ports, different TVs, even different rooms to rule out power interference.

Another user on reddit posted a good video of it here

I'm having this issue with my Xbox Series X with game mode and VRR on and it's more noticeable the higher the brightness setting is. It looks and performs amazingly well in Movie mode and doesn't have that issue at all.

I'm really hoping that software can address this.

Try this:

Go to HDMI 4 with your console turned OFF so it's on the source screen. Turn game mode on and disable game motion plus.

Do you see the scan lines>

@daparky i have just tried this and can confirm that I immediately get scrolling “scanlines” on the source select screen when I turn game mode on and disable game motion plus.

just to note...I also have the same issue when I have VRR and 120hz enabled on Series X and the TV in Game mode (it shows most prominently on grey screens and is particularly noticeable in Star Wars Fallen Order.)

I'm really tempted to return mine for an LG CX. I think this is totally unacceptable for a flagship TV.

Does it happen if you just have 120hz with no VRR?
