DVD connection to UE43AU7100K Smart TV

Guys - looking for advice please.  When I connect a new, basic DVD player to my mum in laws UE43AU7100K Smart TV via HDMI, I get the video but not the audio. Also when first connected, TV comes up with 'Unknown Device' or similar (trying to relay this remotely as not at her house so can't see it). Is t here some type of set up I am missing that prevents the audio? Many thanks

@KW61: While the DVD player is connected via HDMI, and the relevant source has been selected, please head to Settings > Sound > Sound Output, and make sure that 'TV Speakers' is selected. If it is, check the settings of the DVD player itself, as you may need to change the audio output to HDMI. Let me know how you get on.

BTW - worked OK when I plugged into a non-smart TV on HDMI....so must be a setting on the smart Samsung I need to sort
