(Rant) Please, for my sanity: Get rid of Bixby (or at least allow me to)

Hey there!

I don't use Bixby, and I don't really know anyone who does. So I don't really understand why Bixby still exists if I'm honest, and I definitely don't want it on my handset.

Samsung - if you still want to include Bixby, go ahead. But please give us the option to disable or uninstall the Bixby apps/services. If I'm not using it, I don't really want it on my handset.

Best wishes,
Tom 🙂

I agree 100% on Bixby Routines - that feature alone is great!! But I don't particularly make use of Bixby Voice and stuff, I find it gets in the way 🙂

If we were all the same, it would be a boring world. Perhaps familiarity is factor? I stick with Bixby but could not tell you if it's better or worse than Google voice because I've never tried the latter. Some aren't bothered by Google's practices but I have an immense dislike of them.

Thanks for the advice! I've only rooted 1 phone (my Galaxy Young) - I ended up bricking it and that was a very boring week!! I've still got a couple of years warranty on my phone, so I'll leave it stock for now 🙂

You can unbrick phones easily by reinstalling the correct firmware, which depends on your phone model 😁. Just type 'how to unroot galaxy young (model no.)'. Check your device android version as well and also, go for the XEU carrier (basically meaning less bloatware, after reinstallation of firmware). For help on rooting, I suggest you search 'How to root (device name & model no.) and look on xda developers, github, as well as reliable YouTube videos ;). Hope this helps mate!

Thanks for that mate!! I ended up getting the phone repaired professionally when I bricked it - mainly because my laptop was a bit rubbish and I had no Internet (so I didn't have the drivers I needed) - nowadays I'd probably have better luck unbricking it 😁

There are different opinions on Bixby,  though going  by the Community and other sites few are neutral.   Though I know some seem annoyed by it others are fans.  Personally I do make use of Bixby Voice and am generally happy with it, though it does not always work as intended.  Maybe Samsung should give you the choice but suppose reason they do not do that and you need to go through alternative routes.

@CrazyTom2k2  Do you like Google Voice?

Honestly, I don't use either. If I had to choose, I'd choose Google Voice/Google Assistant, but I generally don't use a Voice Assistant on my phone, as it requires the mic to be constantly listening for the wake words, and I keep accidentally triggering it. I've got a Nest Home Mini that I use for that stuff 😀.

I mean, even an option when you set up your phone, like when it gives you the option to select and install stuff like Samsung Internet, maybe include Bixby in that list too 🙂

@CrazyTom2k2  oh right Tom, see your point 😀.    Just maybe will be taken at Board at some point if demand results in a Business case.  Is the Nest Home Mini impressive for you?  One review here for those who may be interested https://www.t3.com/reviews/google-home-mini-review-small-in-size-big-on-features
