So I just updated to the new One UI 6.1 and I noticed my navigation bar went back to default. No big problem I'll change it. Only thing is that when I go to chnage it how I had it before that option is no longer there.

I used to have the navigation bar where you'd have to swipe up to mimic the default navigation. For example:

  • If I wanted to go back I'd swipe up from the bottom right.
  • If I wanted to exit I'd swipe up from thr middle
  • If I wanted to close all recent apps or view them I'd swipe up from the left side.
I like this because it kept the phone clean and there was no bar at the bottom like I'm forced to do now

Google has implemented the changes to accommodate the new AI features
There is a work around by installing Samsung Goodlock
Then installing the Navstar plugin
This will get you back most of the old gestures you used

Go to the display click the button or gesture option, you can only pick button one or the other gesture one. In settings

So just found out the workaround. It's awful. Last Samsung phone I own after this...

Go to the Samsung Store app
Download "Goodlock"
Open Goodlock
Scroll down and install Navstar
Open it and toggle on
Enable the extra gestures setting
Then open your phone settings
Go to Display
- Navigation Bar
- Select Swipe Gestures
- More Options
And you'll see the original option restored.

Removing a feature to lock it behind two installs, I can only imagine to bring people to your store front is scum level. Sod this.

I also feel as though my screen has dimmed. I now have to use the vivid setting for better viewing.

Even more ridiculous is that goodlock is "not available in your region" here in South Africa so the long winded work around doesn't even work for me. The new navigation bar is so incredibly stupid, half the time I want to move around a screen I activate the "go back" swipe. Who approved this nonsense?

I hate this update,  I've been using that what of navigation trough my phone since my very first smartphone. I don't like this change. If i wanted this I would have bought an IPhone. Why change something that works perfectly fine?

I hope they change it back truly.

I just updated my phone and found out this same issue. I hate the original navigation style. Why even remove a feature that has never (atleast in my 10 years of Samsung using) had a problem. If this doesn't change back asap I will go buy any other phone than Samsung just because. I dont need any more third party apps to be able to use my phone.

Agreed this is a poor change and a backwards move. I don't care about a workaround. Change this Samsung or I'll walk.

I don't understand why did they disable the option to let the user choose the swipe gesture mode. Awful update!
