Get ready for a long rant! I'm trying to text a contact and my messages will only send when I delete the messages I received from this contact! I've spoken to my network provider and they were useless. Help me please to save my sanity. Thank you.

Hi @FedUpFedUp

Could you confirm that you're using the standard SMS messaging service app on your phone? Also, are you able to create and send a brand new message to your contact, as opposed to a reply?

Hi ChrisM. I'm using the standard SMS. I've tried tye brand new message as you suggested but that doesn't work. The only procedure that works is to delete the message I receive and then send a text.

Hi, @FedUpFedUp. Thanks for getting back to us. Just to add to what @ChrisM has asked, it's entirely possible that you might need to clear the Messages app cache. In addition to that, our colleagues from Samsung Hong Kong also have some helpful suggestions in the guide below:

https://www.samsung.com/hk_en/support/mobile-devices/i-am-unable-to-send-sms-text-messages-from-gala...

Please let us know whether this facilitates you being able to text your contact as expected.

You're welcome, @FedUpFedUp. I'm very confident that you'll get this resolved - either by clearing the Messages app cache or, in case there is an issue with low storage space on your phone, clearing some space:

We look forward to reading your update. 👍

Hi PaulM1 and ChrisM. Thank you all for your advice and help, but unfortunately nothing has worked. I have a phone upgrade in October so who knows, a new device might be the answer. Until then I will write to my Mum instead of texting her.

That's very strange, @FedUpFedUp, and I appreciate you keeping us updated. For clarity, does this issue only occur with the messages you receive/wish to send to one of your contacts or does it happen with any number/contact?

It only happens with one of my contacts. I've texted others, and it's ok. I've asked my wife to text my Mum and its ok. I called my Mum's mobile from mine, and it's ok. If I soak my phone in gin will that help??

Oh, that's interesting. As it's only happening with one contact, I recommend having a look at the guide below (from Samsung Philippines) and ensuring that the contact is fully unblocked:

https://www.samsung.com/ph/support/mobile-devices/how-to-block-and-unblock-contacts-on-your-samsung-...

If the issue persists after checking that, I think it would be a good idea to submit an Error report, as this will allow our developers to take a closer look at what might be causing this very unusual behaviour on the Messages app:

https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-use-the-samsung-members-app/

Our developers will get back to you with some suggestions, but I'll pre-empt that by confirming that it definitely won't involve gin. 😉
