Hi! Before I agree to have an engineer come out and end up having to pay out can someone confirm for me that the seal has detached from the drum of the washing machine. My partner and I can't agree.
Today I did a normal wash load, not particularly big as we are drying inside. When I opened the washing machine I noticed lots of small grey plastic bits around the seal, I thought maybe I'd put something through the wash but the more I looked I thought that the rough seam round the seal wasn't something normal? So I think that the seal has detached from the drum, my partner however thinks something has got stuck between the seal and drum (in a gap that's always been there he thinks) and rubbed it causing the little bits of plastic.
Who's right? And does it need an engineer to fix or not?
Thank you!

Yes I bought a second hand machine ready to take retailer to small claims. But got refunded before I sent my letter before legal action. In addition if you paid just fraction or all by credit card they are jointly liable with retailer and ofter refund.

Well many consumer lawyers will say you maybe able to claim up to six years from purchase under English consumer law. The testomonies from other support there is an inherent problem with door seals.

when you put washing in and out of the machine do you brush past the 'lip' of the door seal? - when you put in duvet's and sheets it would be hard not to because the porthole opening is not as large as some other makes washing machines. I had a lovely hotpoint 8KG washing machine with a lovely diameter when you opened the door , great for putting washing in an out of the machine. no I have a 9KG Samsung and the opening is not as large when I open the door.
If you are putting in small laundry like hand towels, teatowels , underwear, shirts and tee's don't pick them all up in one 'clump' and push into the machine rubbing along the door seal , instead seperate them and put them into the drum seperately, and after the wash cycle is finish dont pull them all out of the drum in a 'clump' because all this brushing against the grey rubber door seal will I am sure affect the 'seal' effectiveness and shorten its life. And of course goes without saying if you overload the washing machine with laundry you will see the gasket 'twist' as the machine is washing / spinning and this will throw it out of shape and then the seal between the gasket and the glass door will not seal properly

We have just bought a Samsung washer with the same seal that has been described previously.
We are only 3 wash loads in, on our first day of owning the washer and this has happened.
The washer hasn't been overloaded (or underloaded) and has only had very normal clothes in it.
My partner mentioned that a sock had got stuck in the area between the door and the seal just as others have mentioned. But there wasn't enything obviously wrong with the machine.
The next load to come out had lots of grey rubber shards in it and the damage to the seal was really quite evident at this point.
We have been given the option of taking it back to the store as the machine is less than a day old, but Samsung have booked a remote engineer to assess later today using video or something like.
I'll update our experience for others once we have more news.
EDIT:
the Samsung partner engineer has visited and brought the correct part following the digital consultation. We had a brand new machine and the visit happened only 2 working days after reporting the problem.
It was determined that the drum was not installed / aligned correctly and the evidence for this was that the seal had only perished on the bottom and not the top. obviously we only had the machine for one day before the problem occurred so not indicative of a poor seal life, more that the machine was not built to standard. Happy now the issue is repaired and nothing more to report.

I am so grateful for your post! Despite it being 2.5 years ago, it seems to be an ongoing problem faced by a few of us.
I just opened my washer door and found the grey rubber “rubble”. I can see it’s come from the piece of rubber around the inner drum. My machine is 11 months old and has only had light use (not used every week). This is my second Samsung washer. My last one didn’t miss a beat in 15 years so I can’t be me!
I have called Samsung and a technician will come out next week. Thanks to everyone’s replies, I am not paying for the repair! I think there’s enough to argue that this comes under the Consumer Guarantee Act 1993 (New Zealand). I will update post the technician’s visit if possible.

Well nice to hear that. And you have had the motivation to post-Unlike those that pay for repair after a few months who can not be bothered. So what do you think of those critical of Samsung quality control online, for example videos from bloggers? I wonder what shareholders and employees realy think? What is Samsung's opinion again?

Well we have used machines for decades without problems. But I have noticed Samsung have some very prominet stickers near their doors and seals . Why is this?

We’ve got the same problem with our Samsung Ecobubble and we’ve only had ours since June 2022, so less than 6 months
