Same issue on Z Flip 3. I realized the phone is actually unlocking, I mean you can interact -blindly- with the apps. So somehow Android knows the phone is open but for some reason does not turn on the backlight and does enable the touch part of the screen. I'm puzzled as this may be a software issue or a combination of hardware and software issue.

Definitely hardware and Samsung are aware of that phone issue...

I also have this issue now with the same things as you can open the apps and the screen make a noise when I press the home button it is weird I can't find out if it is hardware or software I hope it's just a bug that will go away soon but for now on I might just switch to my s21 for now

Thanks!!! My z-flio 3 has had this problem for several weeks (after an update). I thought it was a bad hardware switch, but found that 'Always On' was off. Turned it on and problem immediately went away.

I finally figured it's a problem with the magnets. Apparently the magnets that keep it closed are also sensed somehow to detect when the phone is closed or not closed. Then the phone must have another way of telling if it's fully or partially open, because it switches between full screen / divided screen in apps like Youtube correctly, but the sensor that works with the magnets is what defines closed vs not closed.

Any time cannot get the screen to turn on, I bring a little magnet near the front camera (so the phone think it's closed), and then when I remove the magnet, the screen turns on because it thinks it's being opened. If you put the magnet back, the screen turns off again.

i think it is a software bug with the phone and i am waiting for a new update if anyone could say if the issue is fixed or not it would be helpful but seeing new posts like this that are showing that they still have not fixed the issue is not great

I can confirm that this bug has now started with my 3-year-old Z Flip3 after years of pretty smooth operation. It may or may not coincide with a recent update; I can't say for sure.

The power button has been stuck down since a few months into ownership so I cannot turn it off and on again without perhaps letting the battery go dead as a workaround, not something I have an urge to do, but this behavior of suddenly going black unless I close and reopen the phone is a very new bug for me. Hopefully this occasional occurrence will not get worse.

Started facing this issue after the last update, so dont know whether its hardware or software.

But its giving alot of problems.

A fix is needed or i might have to use some other spare phone.
