Was on a flight yesterday, phone discharged to zero while I was listening to music and it's now an expensive, shiny brick. Won't charge wirelessly or wired, won't turn on and power button/volume combo don't do anything either.

Other than 'don't buy Samsung' any suggestions?

The same thing happened with me in S22 ultra. I charged my phone 100% and within 3 hours battery reduced to 0. I connect charger but after 1 hour it started charging.

Do try just leaving it on charge to see if the phone starts charging.

If the phone does not start to charge then you may need to let a Samsung Service Centre have hands on with your phone @Grysbal

If I can be of any further help then please don't hesitate. Take care.  😎

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Sound like it's just bad lucky with your phone and it's died. Samsung makes millions of phones so you can get the odd dud. Just simply get in touch with samsung. It's under warranty and as long as there is no damage to the phone they will sort it. They use a third party and there has been horror stories on this group about them but its worth a try and if you get any **** from samsung like a scratch is the reason it's happened then tell them no and to get a grip and sort it. There are various other ways to try and get it booted up but I'm not very hands on with that someone else would have to comment. It's some kinda safe mode. Try also leaving it on charge overnight.

This has happened to me with 13PM and S23U. Just charge the phone for about 30 mins, hold the power and volume down button for a long time like 45 seconds, repeat this for a couple of times which should bring it back to life.

Two things - please let us know what the outcome was.

I'll pass on something which caused me to think my wife's phone had crashed as well.  By accident, the display settings - the brightness, was accidently set to 0 percent.  I thought my wife's phone was  bricked but it turned out be an accidental screen setting mishap.

Had a doorstep repair carried out under warranty.

Very nice chap told me that he unplugged my battery, plugged it back in and the phone came back to life 🤷‍♂️

He did carry out a whole series of tests with no fault found.

I guess I'll wait until it happens again and then send it back for a refund. As far as I know, under current UK consumer law, I'm required to give them one chance to repair which they've now had.

  • From what I understand many devices, probably including the s23, appear to be bricked or completely dead if the battery voltage drops below a minimum threshold which is probably around 3 volts. Giving your battery is internal, it will be a little bit of a challenge to fix this and will probably only be a short fix anyway since your battery is probably on its way out. What you need to do is somehow get your battery charged above that minimum threshold, ideally a minimum of 3.4 or 3.5 volts. Once I reaches this you should be able to boot it up. I've seen it happen before so probably by chance this could work for you if you can get to the battery and charge it manually. Or just replace the battery. But definitely test it first to see what voltage is and if it's below the minimum specs
