S22 Ultra Boot Loop Issues after 6.1 UI / Firmware update.

Hi everyone,

I’m posting because the boot loop issue after the One UI 6.1 update is clearly widespread, and I want to gauge just how big this problem really is.

Is anyone else dealing with a bricked Galaxy S22 or a constant boot loop since the update? I keep seeing new posts about it almost every day.

My phone was working perfectly fine before the update. After installing it, it suddenly stopped working. Now, it’s stuck in a boot loop, and on the rare occasion it gets to the home screen, it crashes and starts looping again.

I’ve tried everything Samsung suggested: clearing the cache, factory resets—you name it. Nothing worked. I even had a Samsung repair tech come to my house. They suggested my motherboard needs to be replaced but refused to fix it under warranty because of a small, superficial crack on my screen (which can barely even be picked up by a camera).

This hairline crack has been there for over a year. It has nothing to do with the motherboard issue, and my touchscreen is working perfectly fine.

What’s even more frustrating is seeing countless others on Reddit, Samsung forums, Twitter, and beyond reporting the same problem—yet Samsung keeps denying responsibility and is shifting the blame onto the consumer.

If Samsung wants to argue that my phone’s reboot loop is caused by a tiny screen crack, then what about everyone else? What about all the other phones with the exact same issue across the globe with 0 screen and cosmetic damage - and the numerous motherboards they’ve already replaced?

The pattern is obvious: this update has caused widespread failures and they are now charging for repairs wherever possible. I even have logs showing the update in question followed by recovery reboots immediately afterward.

It’s outrageous that a £1300 phone has failed in 23 months, and Samsung’s response is a £500+ repair quote for a phone which is laughably now only worth ~£400 brand-new.

That said, I’d really like to hear from others, especially those in the UK but also worldwide, about how you’re handling this situation.

If your phone is out of warranty, you’ve been denied a warranty claim, or you’re experiencing this issue, please share your story. Adding your voice helps build a stronger case and puts more pressure on Samsung to finally take responsibility for this widespread problem.

P.S. If you’re experiencing this issue, and have read this far down - clicking “I have this problem too” under the title of this post may help raise awareness

SM-S908B with Exynos (s5e9925) here. Issue still happening few times a day. Crashes almost instantly when I turn WiFi/Hotspot on.

Also, I observed that sometimes WiFi won't launch, it will stay for multiple seconds in turning on status, then goes back to off, so indeed it is something related to it.

Update - one week ago I sent email to CEO via Samsung website with description of my bootloop problem. Today the service centre called me saying that I need to send my device to the authorised repair centre, which sounds obvious, however person that I was talking with told me that if they won't detect any external damage and if they detect that the device indeed broke by itself, then they will repair it for free, despite being already out of warranty. I asked whether they are already aware of bootloop problems on S22 devices and he answered "Yes".

I don't have an idea if they will accept my complaint and repair phone for free, but based on his words there is a hope, as it looks that they already know about this problem. Poland.

Been to samsung recommended tech support today and they wanted to charge me £350 for a repair saying it needed a new motherboard... I refused, they told me that they have repeatedly heard these issues and to keep on it with complaining to samsung. So I have raised a formal complaint and requested a repair. Samsung online tech support have opened complaint, have a call back Monday, will update!

With latest software update on S22 Ultra you have reduced the battery backup and phone is hanging even for doing basic stuff like clicking pictures, using gallery and many more.

Facing same issue in the middle of a Vacation Trip since 25th December 2024, lost huge amount of photos and important documents as well as this was so sudden and unexpected. Freezer trick also didn't let me go past the lock screen at maximum, just as I unlocked the device rebooted again. Tried flashing Stock Firmware via Odin3 as well but of no use. Currently its totally unrecoverable and starts rebooting as soon as plugged in charger.

Service center quoted Rs 43,000 for a motherboard replacement which is totally outrageous. Currently after logging a Consumer Forum complaint matter is again under investigation from Samsung, awaiting any outcome.

Update. I went to a place in Bangalore (SP road) to get my phone repaired. It cost 6k - roughly $80 (compared to 43k Samsung quoted) and it started working. I've saved all data.

Although the phone is randomly restarting like 10 times a day, when not in use. Scary, but nothing went wrong till now.

Planning to update to December patch and see if this issue goes away.

This has been a nightmare though.

How exactly is it repaired if it still keeps restarting 10 times a day? How is that considered "repaired"?
also, as posted in another thread:

Samsung will not acknowledge this problem. They are going to sit this one out, for better or for worse.

And can you blame them? Just last week I read about some guy here who also had his phone bricked by samsung's faulty update. His solution? "I caved and got the 24 Ultra, so happy with my upgrade". Like, how stupid can you be?

Anyway, since most people replace their phones every 1-2 years and a lot of the rest who still use phones longer have peas for brains (like the aforementioned user, who REWARDED Samsung for turning his 2.5yo phone into a paperweight BY GETTING THEIR LATEST FLAGSHIP FOR 1.5K again, it's more economically advantageous for Samsung to ignore the issue. Yeah, they will lose a lot of customers, but they'd lose more if they called all these defective phones in and replaced them, even if it's the right thing to do. You can thank the fanboys for that one.

Dear @RA43 ,

Thank you for posting. You are absolutely right. Agree 100% with you.

Rewarding samsung more for this mistakes will only lead to them being more complacent. Also 100% true that they don't care about their loyal customers or devices which bricked.

I'm done with them. I'm actually getting ready to sue them.

Cheers!
