I would like to limit the charging on my Galaxy A21 phone to 80%.

On the "More battery settings" screen:

  • Adaptive battery
  • Show battery percentage
  • Fast charging

That's all.  No Protect battery setting.  The software on my phone is up-to-date (or so it says.  Android 12.)  What to do?

Apologies but I've looked everywhere for the A21 stats and I'm 99.9% certain you cannot get the 80% charge limit, which is a feature of Android 14 UI 6.1. I don't think your phone has any sort of battery protection at all. The fact that you aren't seeing the option would seem to uphold that. Please also check in your quick settings panel for the protect battery icon but I'm certain you won't find it.

Is this a UK phone? You say you have the latest software update but if the phone is region locked and you are currently roaming in another country, then it's possible you are missing a feature update. You would need to return to the country of origin to receive this.
If you could provide your latest software build number that would be helpful. Settings >about phone> software information >build number.

That's precisely my point. OP was specifically asking for 80% not 85%.

This is the OP.  I'll take 85%.

I do: Settings / Battery and device care / Battery / More battery settings

No Protect battery setting

Can you be so kind as to provide the exact phone model you have ( get this info from settings>about phone>model name). Where did you purchase the phone from?

As already mentioned here, you could use "mode and routines" (alternatively apps) to trigger certain events (e.g. sound) when the battery level is reached that you can manually unplug. Theoretically you could also work with a timer on the charger. But this is all complicated and no good solution...

I don't have a Galaxy A21 with me. Unfortunately, the energy saving and sustainability options of many devices are extremely modest...  In my opinion, some of them even don't function or seem to do something.

However, I would put the main focus on generally trying to reduce battery consumption so that you don't have to charge as many times. I wouldn't put much emphasis on 85% or 80% either. That shouldn't make a big difference. The value alone is likely to be quite arbitrary; a proper investigation would not result in smooth values

Settings / About phone:

Model name: Galaxy A21

That's what it says.

Purchased from Tracfone.  Several years ago.

I think it's safe to say, no battery protection mode. 85%, 80% or any %
