Several days ago both of the microphones on my Galaxy A12 failed during phone calls and voice recordings using the messaging app. At best I could hear, and others I was talking to could hear, very faint sounds surrounded by static.
However....
When I use the video feature on the Camera app, both microphones record my voice clearly, without any static.
I am completely baffled as to the nature of this problem. Is it bad hardware? Bad software?
I tried a full factory reset and every other bit of advice related to the microphones, but the problem remains consistent.
The mics do not work when I make a phone call; they do work when I record a video.
Thanks in advance!

Same issue for me for my Samsung Galaxy A12 Mic1 doesn't work on any phone app anymore for some weeks now, but mic2 works when recording a video... Im looking for a phone app which uses Mic2 or all of the other workarounds before possibly buying that mic1 board thats supposedly cheap. Im from germany so we will see. Will reply back when i hopefully solved this somehow.
I did upgrade it to latest firmware etc. A125FXXS5CXE3 / A125FOXM5CXE3 / A125FXXS5CXE1 01may2024 it is likely hardware charging port/board with the mic as shown in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn3SJPipjtM i will attempt to fix it and ordered a cheap 5€ one that should be easy to replace

Replace the board and you will be fine. They cost around 5 to 8 us dollars

Looks to be a hardware issue. Ordered the mic/charge port board off ebay and installed. Microphone now works. Just to make sure I put the original board back in and the problem came back so definitely a hardware issue. When putting back in the board make sure the speaker contacts align correctly (2 tabs at the side of the board). This is the one I ordered For Samsung Galaxy A12 A125F Charging Port Dock Connector Headphone Jack & Mic | eBay

Yeah Bluetooth does bypass the internal microphone, but most likely phone still has an issue with its internal mic.

Not sure about that, put in a new board and the problem was fixed. Then put in the original board and the problem came back. Just faulty boards, seem to have a 3 odd year lifespan.

Did the phone make it past warranty? The fix is cheap, the phone was Samsungs entry level model so cheap. My expectations were set accordingly.

When I replaced the board mic worked, when back to the original board mic stopped again, back to new board and low and behold the board works. This looks hardware to me. In addition, there are a bunch of videos with people scratching out the traces on the board and applying solder to get them working. What I suspect is that traces are being cracked from mechanical flex in the board when pugging/unplugging to charge.

Not proven it was software that broke the mic. You're under warranty so return

The solution has been marked as using wired/wireless air buds. Seems from later posts its really replacing the mic/charge board. Can you make this the solution?

There's a card at the bottom of the phone with integrated mic, earphone and speaker. It costs only USD 10. Just replace that. The bottom mic is sensitive and gets damaged if phone is dropped/bumped.
