For people that has scanlines on their G7/G9/Neo G9 and having difficulties to reach basic Samsung monitor support in their country, I was able to reach the Samsung HQ and got their answer: "Scanlines are because of the limitations of the screen". While Samsung HQ admitted it , there was some confusion with my support saying that some people may say that it is all the monitors that has this problem but my support said it is not all :

" when you search the internet for an problem about an product it will always look like it is an major issue and that every product has that issue. This is an distorted view. The reason this view is distorted is because we can see the full picture.Let 's take this case for example. You have scanlines on your monitor. Of course you think "Wait is this normal?"The next thing you do is you do an google search and here you find an 1000 post about people with the same problem.Of course all alarm bels will go of and you will think that every monitor has the same problem.how ever what you can not see is the amount of monitors that have been sold world wide and do not have that issue. If there were sold 1 million devices and of those 1 million 1.000 have an problem. it is still an amazing product. but the 999.000 people who have an great monitor with out issues.will not post about it. "

They ask me if I could give them the monitor to inspect that on their side and give a replacement but I refused because I don't know if it will be the same [also what is the point if Samsung HQ admitted it's due to limits of the screen]...

Later after I ended discussion with my support, Neo G9 got released  : HDR issues, scanlines [again problems appear whenever they release a monitor] -> this proof that the example of situation that my support explained to me was totally wrong.

I have scanlines for these images, but maybe it will be different for you:

(Scanlines are more visible when refresh rate is at max (240 Hz))
Recently, I noticed that people are having scanlines issue with some colors (such as blue, orange, purple) but not on the entire screen anymore, maybe Samsung did their best to fix the issue as they said it was due to the limitations of the screen.

------
Pixel inversion issue on most of Odyssey G7 32" :
on pixel inversion tests paterns like lagom.nl : there are some spots (green/blue/red/white) where pixels are flikering. When moving the test pattern (moving the window), these spots do not change place. They only change place when modyfing settings of the monitor [sharpness/contrast/color/black equalizer] or color of image like Night Light on Windows.

Video:

I know that nobody would watch test pattern in their daily use of that monitor, but now that websites started to add dark mode , I started to notice pixels flikering on lines (reddit post/ youtube/google search bar or in LoL)
Scanlines i can forget since it only appear on specific image but seeing pixels flikering on my daily usage....

Update: new batches of Odyssey G7 32" use the updated panel in most cases

Just imagine how many Gaming monitors samsung would sell if they told you that the screen has limitations and it doesn't work 100%, I for sure know i would had never bought mine. And yeh ppl bash Apple, but holy ***** Samsung customer support is even worse.

I never had problems with Samsung products (had all the galaxy phones, galaxy watches, 3 Samsung LCD TVs, even my first LCD monitor was a Samsung one). But with the G7 32" i bought i saw they simply don't care about theyr customers and i am done with this brand for good.

Hello again :face-with-tears-of-joy: just had the monitor back from repair after a week. And yes (as i expected).. it did fook all xD. I feel they just did a script repair (without looking at the issue and replace the important parts they think it might fix things, clean it up, do a software check and then send it back and "HOPE" it fixes it) they don't bother looking at the issue at hand, i even warned them (kindly) to check it with their eyes by going on paint which all windows have.. surely they have paint.. and do an orange box on the right side... simple right? but nooo they just ignored me.

Anyone know a good monitor that has about the same specs but... does it's actual job? I was looking foward in getting the G8 with pure black and better colours but...... had to be samsung. And yes am refunding this monitor once i find something ...worth my money.

At 240Hz or at 120Hz VRR enabled I'm having scanline issue on desktop environment. While playing games there is no scanlines problem on 240hz or VRR, idk why.

My workaround is as follows:
- Switched VRR option off from monitor menu forever.
- Using 120Hz when not playing games.
- Switching 240Hz from nvidia panel when playing games.

I don't know why Samsung still hasn't solved this issue....

Most games tend to be fine or barely noticeable. If you really look closely you may see lines on orange in certain games and once u start seeing them it hard not to see them anymore :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I'v already refunded my samsung G7 and i would advise to do the same thing, they can't fix it.

I have just come across this after wondering about this for a while with my G7. All of the links above seem to result in the entire screen having scanlines across and there's also a lot of flickering (seems to be worse on 1014). I haven't worried about it so much as it only seems to be faint across the topic of the screen but since the update I'm not happy with the flickering and it seems like there's a lot more wrong with it given the failing tests.

What is the situation with this - can I return the monitor and get a replacement or is that not going to do any good? I bought this from Currys in the UK less than 12 months ago so I imagine it's still under warranty - although I don't have the box anymore.

As I said, scanlines are due to limits of the screen. for the G-sync screen flickering , to fix that there is VRR in settings' monitor that needs to be enabled . If you meant scanlines with flickering , maybe it is because you did not unplug the monitor after the update is finished ? replacement will be useless since scanlines are due to limits of the screen. If you do not like what you pay for, just say them "I did not pay a huge amount to get this problem, first I discovered G-sync issue then scanlines , this is not normal" you can also show them this video to show you're not the only one : https://youtu.be/8T7pogOgS_M?t=78
But I don't know if they would accept return/replacement since you don't have the box anymore
Also, all electronics products has a warranty of at least 2 years in Europe, so you're still under warranty

Box shouldn't really matter, i got mines returned to amazon while i had the monitor for 12 months and they said any box will do as long as the monitor is in it.. however i always had bad issues with returns and refunds from curry's so hard to say.. best not to shop from them really.

If curry's can't even though you are entitled for a faulty item refund withen 2 years.. talk to samsung instead and see if they are willing.

I have the Odyssey Neo G9 (btw I returned 3 of them before getting one without any dead pixels).

I was using it on my M1 Macbook Pro up until this week and didn't notice the scanlines.  And this was using it at 120hz which I was limited to by the computer.

On my new PC that I built with GTX 3080, I can enable 240hz.  When I do that, I see the scanlines but only on the left and right sides (mostly the left side).  For example, when I right-click the recycle bin icon in Windows, the blue hover on the menu shows it and the blue logo on the recycle bin icon.  Switching back to 120hz, I don't see the problem any more.  If it's there, it's not noticeable to me.

I wonder if this has something to do with one of the following:

  • Windows is not syncing at 240hz, instead it's like 239.76
  • 240hz is using some type of compression
  • Limitation in display port 1.4 bandwidth

yep, i made the mistake of going back to them, I have a G7 27 inch and a 32 inch sat next to each other now and the 27 inch has NO scan lines, the 32 in has MANY scanlines across blues and oranges across the whole screen... wahoo, lets waste a bunch of petrol returning things for weeks on end now until i get a proper one lol

Same here, got mine like one week ago, and i see scanlines in blue and orange too, in games  who is my purpose to buy that G7 32" is def unnoticiable. But well, im from brazil and here the monitors market is tr4sh, like we dont have any IPS UWQHD monitors here, and for gaming this one is the best we can buy here, or pay like 4x more in a alienware. So i will probably just "dont care" about this and still using that one for gaming.

obs: if i change to 60hz, these scanlines dissapear completaly
