My HW-H750 Soundbar is sounding dull with a lack of top-end. It is far from new and is used in conjunction with my H8000 Samsung TV via SoundConnect. Is there anything I can do to improve it, or has it had its day, or am I going deaf?

Your HW-H750 soundbar sounding dull with a lack of top-end could be due to several factors, including settings, connectivity issues, or even wear and tear over time. Here are a few things you can try to improve the sound quality:

1. Check Sound Settings on Both Devices

  • Sound Mode: Try switching between different sound modes (e.g., Standard, Movie, Music) to see if there's an improvement.
  • Treble Adjustment: If your soundbar allows manual EQ adjustments, try increasing the treble.
  • Surround Mode: Some surround modes can make the sound more muffled—experiment with turning it on/off.
  • TV Sound Settings: Make sure your Samsung H8000 TV is set to output sound in a way that complements the soundbar.

2. Connectivity Issues

  • Try a Different Connection: SoundConnect (Bluetooth) can sometimes reduce audio quality. Try using an optical cable or HDMI ARC for better clarity.
  • Re-pair the Connection: If sticking with SoundConnect, try disconnecting and reconnecting the soundbar.
  • Interference Issues: Wireless signals can degrade over time due to interference. Try moving other wireless devices away.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause audio performance issues. Check the Samsung website for any updates for your HW-H750.

4. Physical Maintenance

  • Dust and Obstructions: Dust buildup on the drivers or inside the soundbar can impact sound quality. Carefully clean the exterior vents and, if possible, check for any obstructions.
  • Loose Connections: If using wired connections, check for any loose or damaged cables.

5. Test with Different Audio Sources

  • Try playing audio from another device (e.g., phone, another TV) to determine whether the issue is with the soundbar or your current setup.

6. Aging Components

  • Over time, speakers can degrade, leading to reduced high frequencies. If none of the above helps, it could be a sign that the soundbar is reaching the end of its lifespan.

If you've tried everything and still notice poor audio quality, it might be time to consider a replacement. If you're worried about hearing loss, a simple test with headphones or another speaker might help confirm whether the issue is with the soundbar or your perception.

Thanks for suggestions. I already have sound mode set to Music with treble up to Max (+3) and bass set toin(-3). I will work through others to see if I can get anywhere. At moment I get more top end just using TV speakers.

Any idea how I can check firmware installed on soundbar? No settings button/menu and doesn't work with Samsung SmartThings.

Your soundbar might just be losing some clarity since it's not brand new. Try messing with the sound settings on both the soundbar and TV, like adjusting the treble and bass, or using any sound modes. If that doesn't help, try resetting the soundbar or see if there’s a software update. If it still sounds off, it could be that the soundbar has just worn out a bit over time, but it’s probably not your hearing.

I have updated firmware. Sounded worse. Tinkerred with settings but no improvement. I think half the problem is poor audio mix on TV programs. Friend suggests that valves in Soundbar might be past it.
