Good morning friends.

I've performed the firmware update for my HW-Q90R soundbar.

Given that there is no official statement from Samsung with the details of the update  I would like to check with the community what new features have been included.

- How can I check now the firmware version on the bar, to check if the rears are updated as well? In the past just by holding the sound mode button on the remote with the soundbar off the different versions appeared on the display.

Now it is not case. Now by holding sound mode for 5 seconds with the bar off it enables a new functionality: Test Tone

NEW FEATURES

- EARC functionality is enabled, this is great.

- Test tone: What it this for? It performs a test of the sound of the different channels, is it useful for anything else?

- Now in the sources appeared TV SPEAKERS, what is this for?

I would like to check specially if the update has included any update of the rears and subwoffer

Thanks to all for the fast and useful replies, much appreciated indeed, i will just reply to one of you but consider this reply personal for each of you 😉

Sorry, my bad, I forgot to mention a problem with the SmartTh. app:

yes, SmartThings would be great.. i indeed tried that first..... unfortunately Samsung made the app in a way that it is not available on my (quite) new Redmi Note7 :-((  , i can find in the playstore only the "S.T. Classic" version (1 big circle icon) and that does not works.  Samsung confirmed me that the app does not works on certain phones, like Redmi and Xiaomi

No friends available at the moment to try to connect it with other smartphones...so the USB tentative

Strangely the app (the "flower-5+1circles icon) is available and i've installed on my old "retired" Redmi Note 2.....but it does not find the soundbar in any way, even manually search by name....

Any more  suggestions ?

Thanks again indeed to all, i will try what you already suggested and let you know.

@Aber1967

You can download SmartThings on apkmirror here :

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/samsung-smartthings-samsung-connect/

you just choose the variant for your phone and accept the unknown sources to install it. :thumbs-up-sign-emoji-modifier-fitzpatrick-type:

I got one for my Samsung A3 (2016) with Android 7.0 and I have updated my soundbar HW-Q90R with this SmartThings. :smiling-face-with-sunglasses:

My advice get a Samsung phone or iphone. Getting an uncommon brand of phone your asking for trouble.

Better advice: get a GOOD phone.

Uncommon doesn't mean "bad" generally speaking. I don't think Samsung and Apple needs further advertising for their phones.

Just to Highlight the main thing I believe worked for me after doing the update was to turn off & unplug the Soundbar, then plug back in & turn on, I did not even have to re-pair Sub or Rear speakers. I have also invested in & changed my HDMI cables to v2.1, I have plugged my Sony 4K player direct into the Soundbar & now get Dolby Atmos also scrolling on soundbar when playing a movie (disc) in Dolby Atmos. Happy days🙂 You can buy reasonable priced v2.1 cables on Amazon, just read reviews & choose from there which you think best.

Dear CB-33

thanks for your suggestion, i did it exactly like you wrote (after I installed SmartThings by apkmirror as suggested by CPP49)

Now I have, finally:
M - 0128.0
B - 1010.5
H - 0051.0
FD - 0040.0
W - 0240.0
S - 0136.0
RR - 0136.0
RL - 0136.0

Now I've the app on "auto updates on" just in case ...

Any idea why "W" is remained 0240.0 and not 0241 ?  I've read something about depend from what version the update start?

Thanks again indeed
