I have had ongoing issues with the Bluetooth reconnection failing with my iPhone X - sometime it doesn't connect at all and other times it will only connect to one channel, not both. Please advise as this ruins the functionality of the watch. I have done resets etc without luck.

According to the following link the Bluetooth connection between the watch and iOS iPhones can be temperamental.
It suggest to fully unpair the devices and reset them back up.
Samsung Gear Frontier s3/device-compatibility.
Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512Gb ~ Titanium Black.
