I have setup a watch with standalone phone number for my kid in Kid setup.
In Connections - It has Payment with Google Pay (radio button) setup.
In reviewing online articles, it states to download Google Wallet on the Watch app store itself - Google Wallet is NOT an available search result to download (but other google items are).
I have also tried to push the Google Wallet from my phone (master for kids setup) and it says 'Install pending' and to check the watch for connectivity (it has it) but nothing changes.
I keep going in circles trying to get this working. Any other tricks to manage to get this working?
Kids watch: Galaxy 7
My Phone/Master: Samsung S25+

Wow, my experience was very similar--in a word you used, "miserable." I just got off the phone with Verizon because I tried using my phone as a mobile hotspot the other day, as I have many times for years, and got a message about it not being part of my plan. Then a bill 20% higher than normal because despite what Verizon told me, they never changed my plan back to what it was before this whole kids' smartwatch fiasco. They've assured me it'll be back to normal in 7-14 days. If it's not, I'm definitely leaving Verizon after almost 24 years of loyalty.

Was the setup issues you encountered purely on Verizon & kid mode and it wasn't the watch itself? I presumed some of this was the Samsung setup being an issue for it.
If so, thats wildly upsetting...

My issues were purely Verizon. I've had no issues with the watch itself (I also have a Watch5 Pro I've had no issues with in two years on AT&T). The only issues I've had with Galaxy Watch for Kids mode is setting up Google Wallet or installing Google Assistant instead of Bixby. Wallet seems to be a work in progress and I haven't really had a chance to look into the Assistant issue. It shows up as unavailable in the play store which may be a restriction of kids mode or perhaps it's not quite ready like Wallet.

Food for thought for me leaving or at least moving their watches off of it. A massive pain for something that isnt that hard.
