I have setup a watch with standalone phone number for my kid in Kid setup.
In Connections - It has Payment with Google Pay (radio button) setup.
In reviewing online articles, it states to download Google Wallet on the Watch app store itself - Google Wallet is NOT an available search result to download (but other google items are).
I have also tried to push the Google Wallet from my phone (master for kids setup) and it says 'Install pending' and to check the watch for connectivity (it has it) but nothing changes.
I keep going in circles trying to get this working. Any other tricks to manage to get this working?
Kids watch: Galaxy 7
My Phone/Master: Samsung S25+

Is the release date posted?
If the watch wasn't in kids mode, would the wallet work?

Hey, CM123414. By any chance, were you able to get your child's Watch 7 LTE set up as a standalone device (with it's own phone number, not number-shared) on Verizon? I had tried to do so when Google/Samsung announced the new kid/family features, but Verizon wasn't able to get it working after many, many hours with their support. If you were able to get it to work on Verizon, I would appreciate more info about your experience connecting it to a plan. Thank you!

Hi brendan312,
Short answer is yes - but I will confirm that it took hours in to days to get it to work - and I had to push them on it. I was trying to do the same thing - Kid watch with own phone number so I can communicate with them.
The main thing that I can confirm is that you CANNOT do a Kid Setup with a Google Phone. I got a Google Pixel 9 Pro (and also did this on my old Pixel 6) and in the seutp instructions (on both Samsung website and Verizon) - it states that after Start in the Wearables app that you will see Setup Kid mode. This does NOT show as an option on the Google phone. It only allows you to setup a watch with number share on a Google phone (currently).
I went into a Veriuzon Store (actual Verizon, not 3rd party run Verizon) after multiple rounds and hours of tech support that failed to change anything. Even they were reading the Verizon documentation and telling me it should work. Only once I pushed to try the Samsung s25+, only THEN was I able to see the Setup mode for Kid.
Now some additional notes of caution as I am trying to navigate this as things are not easy...
The setup/settings are spread across both the Family Link (Google) and Samsun Wearables app - which is annoying to remember which setting/option is in which place.
Now 2 things I am trying to navigate now:
- Google Wallet/Pay - Ironically I just got an email today via Family Link that Google Pay for kids 'is coming' - but no dates notes for when it will be released. This is a massive bummer that this isn't already enabled as location tracking and this was another key reason for purchasing the watch.
- Music - I am trying to enable sending tracks or enable a music service like Amazon (I don't use Spotify) - but I am in an infinite loop with The wearables app telling me that a setting must be enabled, but every setting in both the apps and watch are Allow all.
At this point I am going to try to wipe the watch clean and set it up as a Standalone but not do Kids mode to see if Google Pay/Wallet and Music works. Defeats the purpose of why i bought the watch in the 1st place (for a kid), but the functionality is super limited form what I can tell.

Update on the Google Pay piece I attemtped to setup the watch with Standalone Number, but it goes in a loop and tries to force a NumberShare. So I was unable to do this.

Thanks, CM! Sounds like it's still not quite ready for primetime, but that progress has been made since I tried a few weeks after the announcement. I had been trying on my Samsung S20, which is old but met all the requirements to set up a kid's watch this way, and while I could get through all the setup steps, it could never find a plan from Verizon that was compatible with the watch when setting it up for a child, no matter what I went through with Verizon (which included migrating to a whole new plan and way more technical stuff on their end). After so many frustrating hours, and having to pay a restocking fee on the watch, I actually recently switched to a Motorola phone (my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro works fine with it) and am still considering leaving Verizon after 23 years. It really was an awful experience.

I originally set it up two or three weeks ago and it would let me install Wallet from the play store on my son's watch, but when I opened it, it would just give me an error that he's not old enough to use Google Wallet and close. An update came in last week that fixed that part, but now when I try to add a card it says continue on the phone and nothing happens on the phone. Hopefully that means they're getting close.
His watch is on AT&T so we had no problem setting it up as a standalone. I actually got this watch to get away from his Gizmo watch on Verizon. The entire experience with Verizon start to finish was miserable and when they finally charged me $225 after assuring me I wouldn't get charged I gave up and cancelled. I suggest you do yourself a favor and set the watch up at literally any other carrier. I spent hours on the phone and in the Verizon store and the only result was them adding more accounts and charging me for all of them, then acting like they had no idea what I was talking about.
