Got the new watch on Friday and all seemed good but today I've noticed that notifications for Gmail and WhatsApp aren't vibrating. I'm still getting the notifications, they're there if I swipe/rotate left, they're just not vibrating.

Anyone else noticed this? Everything is correct in the settings as far as I can tell.

Yes, it is very strange. Hoping for a good firmware update soon or it might have to go back. Even more strange, when it does vibrate GMAIL actually works, but it doesnt last long.

Ahh that's interesting - so, just to be clear: you uninstalled the Galaxy Wearable app, which reset the watch. Then reinstalled the app and set the watch again from scratch and the Gmail vibrations are now working? If so, I'll give it a shot tonight. Bit of a pain because I have all my bank cards loaded, etc, but worth a go.

I tried this last night - didn't work.

EDIT: Interesting you set it to sound and vibrate. Does it still work in vibrate only?

Ive reset it, deleted the app and the Galaxy 4 plug in, restarted phone and no luck. Made sure the plug-in had the App notifications allowed permissions and tried again .. nothing.

Question, on non-samsung phones do you have to set your phone to vibrate for the watch to vibrate? (ive tried this as well but no luck)

Tried but unfortunately it didn't resolve the problem. I get the notification, no tone and no vibration though. Text, calls and email notifications work though.

My advice comes from being a UK Samsung iPhone user.

Current Devices:
  • iPhone 14 Pro 256GB Deep Purple
  • Samsung Galaxy Buds+ > Model: SM-R175.

OK so I figured out my WhatsApp notification issue...

I have Settings > Privacy > Fingerprint lock enabled within my WhatsApp application. When this is enabled, I no longer get audio or vibration alerts on my watch. If I disable Fingerprint lock, notification and vibration alerts work.

Never had an issue with the original Watch or Watch 3! 🥲

For all those not receiving notifications do you have tattoos under the watch? Just that my hubby has now had two Classic 4s from Samsung as not getting any notifications at all. Spent hours on the phone to support, they have tried every setting and nothing working.

Just read a thread on these boards re tattoos affecting the watch which I am gobsmacked at. My hubby has a sleeve tattoo so the watch is sitting on his ink and we tried the watch on my wrist which is not inked and woohoo it works. So definitely an issue wearing the watch on a tattoo. Apparently if you have a tattoo the watch thinks it is not being worn so no notifications are getting through.

Yes, it's a well-known issue with the last three versions of Samsung's watches that they do not work on top of tattoos. It's not just notifications. The watch is basically not aware of the fact it is on the wrist and therefore you cannot use the AOD (always on display) function and if you plan to use the payment features you have to enter a pin/pattern every time, instead of once per day. I'm sure there are many more features affected. You would think they would resolve this by now in some way.
