Getting whatsapps to open in the whatsapp app on watch

Hi

I've got a new watch 6 classic and it's set up and working fine (mostly). I have a question, is it possible to get the watch display whatsapps in the whatsapp app as a default. Currently theu come up as a notification and there is an option to display on watch which then opens whatsapp. It don't understand why it would do this rather than just display then in the whatsapp app. 

Anyone able to help?
