Hi all,

Did anyone get this official software update to the Galaxy watch 3 yet, to include the full health functions of ECG and Blood pressure ?

I am watching reviews and forums online, to see if these functions are now enabled and working, as I would be very keen to buy the Galaxy watch 3 when this function becomes available... or alternatively perhaps I may wait to see if there is an improved  'watch 4' announced in August.

It seems many people online still haven't yet got this firmware update ?  It was due to start rolling out on 4th Feb .  If you HAVE received the update and used it ... is this function any good ?  Does it seem to provide accurate data ?

I actually suffer from a fairly severe heart issue, and if this device function was to give a good measurement for ECG and BP, then it would be a great device for my purpose and this could help to minimise my risks of heart arrhythmia issues.

Although, this watch could never replace a proper medical instrument, or a full ECG test by medical professionals... it would enable me to understand if I was having an issue or not, so could be really useful to me.

Any responses from the users would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just for info... I have done a little more reasearch, and unfortunately it seems this app is not going to be good for me.

The attached screenshot shows some of the Samsung terms and disclaimers.   Within this shows that the app should not be used if having an ICD device, which I do have.

Doh. My search continues !

I went to see my GP first, as I was ash grey in work with a sore chest and my manager was worried and pulled me out to get a look at by the one of the onsite medically trained people. I work at an outdoor centre and we have lots of accidents (downhill biking and skiing) so we have defibrillators and all sorts of medical equipment. I got a BP and heart rate check. I got 2 readings, one of 168/103 and one 170/98 for blood pressure and 103 and 101 for heart rate at rest. I'm 29 but at that time I was 28 and was admittedly sedentary at home and lightly active through my job where I'm on my feet all day, not sitting. Don't drink or smoke but was overweight with a bmi of 25.9 or 26.9 I can't remember and had episodes of binge eating and starvation. Anyway, my GP was so dismissive of the readings and gave a strong indication that I wasn't being truthful in regards to my lifestyle (smoking, drinking etc) which was dejecting to say the least. I did get an ecg but he looked at the sheet for 2 seconds and sent me home, no follow up.

I decided I'd never go back ever (there is a backstory about why I hate GP's that's too long to tell and this was the final nail).

Specialists are far away from where I live and corona hit right after this so I have been unable to do much about it since then until now.

I got severely ill from something
which I don't think was corona in April whereby I lost 16lbs in 9 days then I had a breakdown from stress in August from a crazy and seemingly endless set of personal and family circumstances which led me to lose 2 1/2 further stone so just shy of 50lb since the GP visit. I'm nearly 6ft 4 though so take that into account. So somewhere around this time I decided I wanted to keep track of my health with zero effort as I was also depressed and if you know depression, doing much of a ything let alone a 6 hour round trip drive to a specialist seems on par with ascending Everest. Not wanting to add strain on the NHS too. But after realising the update wasn't coming anytime soon I ordered a blood pressure monitor. Since the weight loss I've maintained my weight and my blood pressure is 138/84 roughly but my heart rate still the same usually around 100.

I know I'm being dumb but I want the watch to scare me into seeing a specialist. I've had a skipping heart beat before which I neglected and my. entire thigh was numb for 3 months and I never saw about either.

I do agree to watch your blood pressure, I thought the upper healthy threshold is 140, therefore 138 is too close for comfort.  Anyway I would recommend you to get a proper blood pressure monitor, an Omron M2 or M3 would be sufficient, they are not too expensive.  On the other hand, if you are going to use your watch as blood pressure monitor, you do need one to calibrate with on monthly basis.

Yeah that's right 140+ isn't good but 170 is ok with my doctor apparently 🙄 I swear they just send the rubbish ones to the middle of nowhere practice's. Or more likely there are very few applying to these areas and they just hire whoever they can get.

I did end up getting one a few months ago yeah, it was around £30 or £40. The name of it I can't remember but it was highly rated so I can trust the reading to be somewhat accurate. Problem is I forget to regularly check, I'm super inconsistent with everything but I'm addicted to my technology so I'm sure I'd be able to take 3 readings a day if I had the option on the watch. Would ideally do morning, afternoon and night readings to get an overall picture.

I heard that recently, I was always wondering how they'd actually be able to tell but I watched a video and saw it was 3 consecutive readings whilst wearing the watch to configure it.
