Which TV supports recording of Freeview programmes in the UK?

Hi,

After many years of paying Virgin Media many ££££s a month for combined TV, landline and broadband I have decided that I want to change supplier.

We don't watch much TV (I watch virtually none and it's only my wife who watches Eastenders) so Freeview would be perfect.  However, I do need to be able to record her programmes so she can watch them when she wants.

Do any of the new Samsung TVs support both Freeview and the ability to record and play Freeview programmes?  Ideally we want a smaller TV for the bedroom so nothing larger than 32" if possible.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to the Samsung UK Forum.
Family member of mine used to be with SKY and the price got crazyyy so they switched to a freeview box from argos, either 500gb or 1tb storage options available for recording. Think it was £200 for the 1tb option (honestly not sure).
If your going to go the samsung TV route, ill link some images below.
(Link for Freeview box on argos: https://www.argos.co.uk/browse/technology/freeview-boxes-and-recorders/c:30220/ )

Edit: i was recommended the Manhattan version😊SmartSelect_20240904_210649_Google_1000026817_1725480409.jpgSmartSelect_20240904_210638_Google_1000026816_1725480398.jpg

Thanks. I was hoping to make it simple by having just the TV and not have a separate box, but if that's the only solution then this will be really useful.

I think there is a way to record to an SSD, but id personally go down the box route.

Hi @dmsmart Modern Samsung Tv's support Freeview , you can record to USB on a number of Samsung Tv's, the smaller models may not necessarily support it though, was listed as not applicable on a few 32 inches I checked. As far as USB drives go Samsung tend to recommend hard drives with an external power supply and a maximum capacity of 2 TB and 5400 rpm, however USB powered devices should be fine.
Therefore if you need smaller Tv may need to go down the Box route, specifications will be listed though. I still use Sky but do not have the full package.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

If you have the internet....catch up services are free so you don't need to record (BBC iPlayer, itvx, channel4, my5), stream anything on those channel whenever she wants

This is true but iPlayer isn't easy to navigate sometimes and it just causes unwanted stress when my wife can't find what she is looking for!
