Hello, I am looking for a new television, size 43 inches.

Can you advise whether any of the Samsung televisions have access to the “BBC red button digital text” service when pressing either the red button or a dedicated “txt” button on the remote control?  That is the text service that mostly appears on the right hand side of the screen providing brief text pages of news, sport, entertainment, etc. and was the service the BBC wanted to stop around 2020 but continues to this day.

Also, I currently use a 32gb USB stick/flash drive on my current 2014 Samsung television to record programmes so I can;

  •  pause and resume live tv via the USB stick
  •  start watching a recording via the USB stick before it has finished – i.e. start watching a film from the beginning, half an hour after it has started.
  •  watch a previously recorded programme on the USB stick while recording another.

Can you advise whether I would be able to do this on any of Samsungs new 43 inch televisions?

Many thanks for your help and advice.

Hi @Gusfoe yes the TV's will have the red button for interactive services, though not the traditional Teletext service.
Information relayed from Samsung a while ago was:
Due to broadcast changes it is no-longer possible to access BBC interactive services using the Teletext button. Please note, TVs that are not connected to the internet and some older models may still show some information if the Teletext button is pressed.
It is now necessary to press the RED button to launch BBC interactive services. Just make sure that your signed in to your Samsung Account on the TV and BBC iPlayer app."
Access to USB Recording varies by model though a few 2024 43 inch UHD models I checked did not appear to have Twin tuners which is a requirement for watching other channel whilst recording.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

Thanks for the reply.

My current television is not connected to the Wi-Fi as I usually stream content via an old Nowtv box.  So when I press either the red button or the “txt” button on the remote I can view the “BBC Red Button Text”.  Even though this is still available on my 2014 Samsung tv and is still currently provided by the BBC are you suggesting that the software required is no longer installed in new televisions by Samsung?

Also my current Samsung tv only has one tuner and I can record the viewed programme as I have detailed in my opening post, without being able to watch another channel as it only has one tuner.  So, even with one tuner, I was wondering whether the new Samsung tvs work in the same way?

Thanks again for any replies.

Yes on modern Tv's cannot access using Teletext button. Possibly USB recording would work in the same way.
