Wat version did you install on the Firestick? Did you install the Android version? Or a other one. I have the Samsung QN94D and want to use also the VLC player for streaming media from my Synology NAS

I simply went to the App Store on the Firestick and picked VLC Player. Another way to watch your files is to install VLC on your iPhone or Android and than cast to your QN94D or any other television.

I appreciate the reply. But the idea was that if you buy a Samsung Smart TV you buy it for the ability to install apps and not need to buy other devices.
Irony. Samsung put such little RAM in many of these TVs like ours and has so many that are permanently installed that we can't install more than a dozen apps before we run into out of memory errors. Ended up getting a Roku to install all the apps we need such as HD Homerun, VLC and others which are standard in basically every other ecosystem. Pennywise pound foolish. Samsung should hire me for product design.

If you want just a player without all the commercial mess brought by Plex. A simple stupid (smart) player like VLC to give you some kind of freedom to choose what to stream and to control that. Choices. No case with Samsung - obsessed with "security" but digging in most personal data you can give. I have the options in house - Android TV (superb choice - freedom) and Samsung - pay to have (never yours). Cant understand why you can't install ...your choice? Everything is coming at a price (adverts the most, aggressive). I'm ready to recommend for my company to switch to more flexible Android TV's - if you want closed, internal video stream - Voilà, for free! You can have it. Samsung? - bsht - they know what is best for you, buy more. As somebody said - you need to pay on top of what you already paid. Switch for Android TV. It makes a huge difference.
P.S. Trying to stream Desktop App to 10 Tv's without buying anything extra - done on Android TV (UTP/local network)- almost impossible (due to privacy concerns) with Tizen ***** - (you need to run to the cloud and come back home for some extra money).
Bla bla wireless/cast and HTTP transponders (24/7 - changing them like socks), yes, buy more sticks - not the case.
Just because the f. VLC or whatever player of choice. Some inteligent one from acquisitions decided for this SamBam but dont want to pay anymore from stream equipments. What a ...

The irony is that I have a Roku hooked up to my Samsung SmartTV because it can't adequately function as one.
(1) An insufficiently low amount of RAM was onboard so only 8-12 apps can be installed (in addition to the preinstalled and unremovable vendor apps.)
(2) Generally available apps have still not made it into Samsung's store from reliable vendors, e.g. VLC and HDHomeRun - an app specifically made to extend your TV's ability to receive over the air signals from a reliable and well known hardware vendor.
Frustrated and perplexed.

My issue was to stream the desktop on Samsung. Ha! Not one, 10. So, UTP, privacy. Workaround?
OBS (screen and streamer) with Ownstream (local server).
Two NICs to isolate the mess / dedicated switch.
Work flawlessly on Android. Browser or players.
More pain in the game with Samsung Tizen.
28th:
Sorted.
(For now in Linux, Windouz probably less pain)
I got desktop live on local network with OBS and Apache server.
Nginx was a pain/read/write access.
Ownserver - amazing but not the case for low-quality browsers (too much extra code/scripts blah).
Huh. It works excellently on Android (no pain) and Tizen browsers—just fine-tuning to be done.
So yes, if you want Desktop streaming in privacy mode/local network (on two NICs) for free and to more than 5 TVs it is possible on Tizen - using just browser capabilities.

Miracast (don't confuse Chromecast - the enemy) from the device (if you have a compatible one - Samsung phone, maybe wdos etc.).
If not, the router can do that if you have a USB slot. Else, run an minidlna server.
Enable share in router settings. The dumb player in Samshit can see it (your collection on a stick or external hard disk).
Live stream... IPTV players.
Forget about file managers, special players or ... I don't know - common sense on Android.

agree. Usually, they have more powerful processors than .. let's say, the same generation Sony Bravia with Android. You can notice that. I am the one who loves freedom of choice, even if that is breaking them. And that stupid app market? Change the settings on the TV to find apps that are not available on Mars but ok on Jupiter.

If you have any DTS-HD audio encoded .mkv files/movies?
Do they play via Plex on your Samsung TV?
I made the decision of buying the Samsung TV stupidly before doing the research into which of my many downloaded movies play and unfortunately, which don’t.
