Hi does anyone know of a VLC media player equivalent for the Samsung TV (QN95C). I need to be able to pick up network media files and VLC does this great. But I can't find one that works on the Samsung Tizen platform. Cheers

Hi @GuzziBoy  Have you ever tried Plex  https://uk.pcmag.com/internet-3/117774/plex     https://www.plex.tv/

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

Hi, yes I'm a big Plex user and have a NAS disc running a Plex server. However in this case I just wanted to run video using DNLA and FTP rather than user Plex server. As it happens I found the software switch on the Humax to turn on DNLA and FTP and now I can see the Humax file system from my Samsung TV. So the need for VLC is not now a requirement.

It still would be useful to know, if alternative (third-party) player could be installed into Samsung Tizen TV. The current one is primitive, even though it does the job. For me personally the biggest disadvantage of built-in player in Samsung TV is an enforcement of subtitles during video playback - VLC is one example of the good player, that does not do the same. To disable subtitles - pretty much as switching between audio tracks - you need clicking navigation buttons on remote control multiple times and it is for each video sample of course 😫

Note: Plex is a good advice, however it could not be used as UPNP client (UPNP server support only). It makes it a useless choice to access media files from your Smart TV using DLNA standard.

My work around for this problem was installing VLC on a Fire stick attached to my QN90D.  Accesses my network excellently as well as gives me the option of turning subtitles on or off etc.  Cheers

Thank you @GSR_YVR for advice - good indeed. I only sorrow, that I bought a new all-in-one smart TV to have now tinkering with workarounds - it was not my intention. My old stupid TV with external media player was a plug and play solution out of box.

I need a basic media player which, to my utter surprise and shock, the Samsung TVs do not seem to have nor in the ecosystem. While I did like the first 4K TV I bought and still have, it's now tucked away in a room we don't use much because there isn't any easy way to find a NAS on a network and play video. We purchased new TVs a few years ago that weren't Samsung primarily because of this. I'm not sure why Samsung doesn't allow this, HDHomerun, or many other popular apps that are available via other means. Can't buy an nvidia shield and other streamers to support the smart TV that we've spent a great deal of money purchasing. I do hope someone at Samsung is listening.

Can I suggest Plex, I use a Synology NAS and run a Plex server on the NAS then use Plex media player on the Samsung TV. All my videos etc are stored on my NAS and play extremely well on my TV.

Thank you for this! I installed Plex Media Server on my Ubuntu desktop and my Samsung TV now plays all my videos. 😎
