Hi does anyone know of a VLC media player equivalent for the Samsung TV (QN95C). I need to be able to pick up network media files and VLC does this great. But I can't find one that works on the Samsung Tizen platform. Cheers

Here is a copy of what I found reference Plex server and DTS HD.

While Plex supports various audio formats, including DTS, most clients do not directly support lossless formats like DTS-HD MA. This means the server may need to transcode the audio, which can lead to issues.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Plex's Support for DTS:

Plex supports DTS audio formats, including DTS-HD, but not in a lossless way.

Lossless vs. Lossy Audio:

DTS-HD MA is a lossless audio format, meaning it preserves all the audio data, while formats like Dolby Digital (AC3) are lossy.

Client Compatibility:

Most Plex clients don't natively support lossless audio formats like DTS-HD MA, so the server needs to convert the audio to a compatible format for playback.

Transcoding Issues:

Transcoding can lead to issues like audio lag or reduced audio quality, depending on the server's processing power.

Solutions:

To address this, you can either:

Use a client that supports lossless audio: Some clients, like the NVIDIA Shield, are better at handling lossless audio formats.

Ensure your soundbar/receiver can decode lossless formats: Make sure your audio equipment is capable of decoding DTS-HD MA.

Use a client that can pass through the audio: Some clients can pass the audio stream directly to your receiver, bypassing the need for transcoding.

Examples of Plex clients with good support:

NVIDIA Shield

Xbox

Plex desktop apps

2nd gen Apple TV 4K (with HomePod/HomePod Mini)

I use Plex on my Smart TVs to play videos from my PC, however if/when I want to play something on my older TVs from a USB device then I find that the earlier versions of Samsung's Tizen software cannot handle all MKV files because of out of date codecs and so I either have to copy the videos to the PC or convert them to mp4.
It would be nice to have a media player that has up to date codecs, but apparently Samsung apparently cannot update codecs on older versions of Tizen.

Buy a NVIDIA Shield Pro. It will sort out all your formats and transcode when required. Also you can run Plex Server so you won't need your PC

No thanks.
I'm looking for a solution that does not entail the purchase of expensive additional hardware.
