No one from support came to my house. When I called support, they told me it is just a software bug that would be fixed with the next update.

To work around the local dimming issue until the next update arrives in (according to another user) mid-August, you can try the following steps, which kinda worked for me:

  1. In the settings, set the Smart Hub to display when the TV is turned on.
  2. Use Smart Calibration via your cell phone to eliminate the gray clouds.
  3. In the picture settings, set Local Dimming to Standard. (For me:  Setting it to High caused the picture to lose all colors or go completely dark due to Local Dimming not functioning properly

When you unplug your tv or if you do a soft reset then you have to do the smart calibration again

Note: I am not affiliated with Samsung in any way, i am  just a customer as you are. Therfore  proceed at your own risk.

I had the same issue. And they changed my motherboard. Although some people say if you do a calibration using your smart phone it will fix the problem. It is a software problem. Not hardware.

Hey everyone,

I am currently also dealing with this issue.

The customer support is not every helpful and is ignoring me at this point.

My blacks look consistent, not cloudy, but they are no longer true blacks.

My local dimming has stopped working, like completely.

All the dimming zones are lit at all times.

It's very frustrating.

Does smart calibration also fix the local dimming problem?

Or does it only fix the cloudy blacks?

I don't own a compatible device to perform the smart calibration, so I have to ask someone who does if it's worth the trouble anyways.

This forum has been very helpful so far, and I hope we'll het the update mid-August..

Cheers

Yeah, that fixes it. But whenever the TV loses power it goes back to being broken.

For me the cloudy blacks were only fixed by smart calibration.

"All the dimming zones are lit at all times." In my case all dimming zones are not lit hence my picture gets very dark and looses colors...

To kinda fix this I set (in picture settings) local dimming to the lowest option. Maybe this also works for you...

I really hope they fix this in the August update it's really a nightmare.

Sorry to hear that! This needs to be fixed asap! I have disconnected my TV from Internet to be sure that it doesn't auto update, I am still on version 1024.

Hello! I have QN85b with the new motherboard. I update it via USB and the LD broks. Yesterday they change the motherboard and it has the first v1020 and i have the 1504 for 3 weeks and when i update it to it before the tv has much better motion and it is night and day there. When i start a stream with the new motherboard the motion was so bad with motion interpolation. So i update it to 1504 and hope they fix the LD problem in the next update.
