Unable to search or download additional apps on Samsung TV

I just purchased a new TV and when it arrived, I found I couldn't install any apps other than those suggested on the TV screen.  There's no option to search for additional apps.  I researched this online and found that there's an "Apps" tile missing on my screen that's shown on all the examples online.  See attached example - "missing apps tile.png"

8fcf71b8-51fb-4bb8-bac5-9c6cdce93086.png

This tile is missing on my screen.  I contacted Samsung Support and was advised this:

"Your TV is part of the new Operating System which is Tizen 8. Every supported and available application can be found under Home Page that was highlighted to APPS. Alternatively, we can search it using the search bar on the left side of the Home Page. If the application doesn't appear that means the app is not supported on the TV."

So there's no way to search for any additional apps.  Only those that are already on the TV.  Is anyone else having the same issue and is the information I received correct?

When I use the search button on the left, it isn't great.  It doesn't always find apps that are already installed on the TV.  It couldn't find "Plex", but when I navigated around the numerous tiles suggesting apps, I found that Plex was one of them and when I clicked on the tile, it let me download it.

My TV model is:  QE55Q60DAUXXU

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

I came onto this forum looking for the exact same answer. My nephew bought a new Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV and set it up. His wife was trying to add the RTE Player, but couldn't work out how to search for it. I had a look at the TV, and Googled the living daylights for an answer, with all of them saying to go to the Home screen, click on Apps, and then click on the Apps tile, the one that is missing on yours. There's is the same. I went through all the menus, making sure she had an account and that all the relevant tick boxes had been clicked for T&Cs and Privacy, to no avail. That's crazy if it doesn't allow you to install any other apps. My LG is several years old, and there are dozens of apps that I could install, but haven't. I'll keep looking in the meantime.

Hey @dcrozier81

Is your TV running on the latest software version (v.1201)? You can find this information by heading into Settings > Support > Software update. If it's not, I'd definitely advise updating the software as this usually helps with any minor bugs in the system.

I have exactly the same problem. Took delivery yesterday of a brand-new 65 inch OLED TV Running the latest software. There is no unique app search icon in the top right hand corner. There is no tile as shown above.

When I bought this TV, I asked specifically about the ability to download Some non-standard apps apps And I was told by the salesman that this is absolutely no problem on the Samsung

Someone is not telling the truth here or  your software simply not working

@KholaI I know your question is to the OP, but in my nephews case, his was updated to the very latest O/S as well. It seems like this isn't just a single case of someone not having the Apps tile, but an issue that has effectively locked these expensive so-called 'smart' TVs into 'dumb' TVs, if no other apps can be installed.

I'm not with the TV at the moment, so can't confirm the software version number, but I did check for updates last week and it said it was up to date and no updates available.

Hey, I was able to search for new apps from the left side menu.

Do you have the same screen layout as shown in the OPs post? If so, can you please explain exactly what you are doing, because I tried that and nothing was coming back in terms of apps. In particular, look for the 'RTE Player', which is the main one they want added. It gives results for it, but NOT the app itself.

I want you all to try and reset the TV to factory settings, to see if this helps. You can do this by heading into Settings > General > Reset > Enter a 4-digit number on the PIN screen. If you did not change it after purchasing your TV, then the default PIN should still be 0000 >  Select "Yes" when the TV reboot pop-up screen appears. Once it resets and switches off, power on the TV.
