I just purchased a new TV and when it arrived, I found I couldn't install any apps other than those suggested on the TV screen. There's no option to search for additional apps. I researched this online and found that there's an "Apps" tile missing on my screen that's shown on all the examples online. See attached example - "missing apps tile.png"
This tile is missing on my screen. I contacted Samsung Support and was advised this:
"Your TV is part of the new Operating System which is Tizen 8. Every supported and available application can be found under Home Page that was highlighted to APPS. Alternatively, we can search it using the search bar on the left side of the Home Page. If the application doesn't appear that means the app is not supported on the TV."
So there's no way to search for any additional apps. Only those that are already on the TV. Is anyone else having the same issue and is the information I received correct?
When I use the search button on the left, it isn't great. It doesn't always find apps that are already installed on the TV. It couldn't find "Plex", but when I navigated around the numerous tiles suggesting apps, I found that Plex was one of them and when I clicked on the tile, it let me download it.
My TV model is: QE55Q60DAUXXU
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

It's the third post in this thread. They state that the TV is supposed to have 8GB RAM, but the screenshot provided only shows a total of 4GB RAM. Doing a quick Google search, I found the following thread on reddit which covers the same issue. i.e. TV advertised as having 8GB, but with only about 1GB free:

I have spent a lot of time researching the subject and now understand the Samsung operating system is nowhere near as expensive as other androids for example my Sony TV will let me do almost anything. Where is the Samsung one is heavily restricted in applications that can be added due to its OS.
This makes it an inferior product
additionally the available memory is absolutely atrocious. My new Sony smart TV has 8 gigabyte memory with 4 GB available for the user
Samsung has also gigabyte memory but 50% is used by its OS and 40% is used by pre-installed apps leaving only 10% for the user.
again another very misleading specification from Samsung
TV picture quality is absolutely fine but the other specifications of the TV grossly underperform

I did post a reply to this, but I can’t see it anymore

So I’ll try again,
The Samsung advertised 8 gigabyte memory Is extremely misleading for the consumer.
The reality is 50% of the memory is used by Samsung’s uniqueOS system and 40% of the memory is used by preinstall apps. Leaving the customer with only 10% or less available memory for additional laps which quite honestly is pathetic.
This also means you need to regularly clean up the TV by emptying the cache Which quite frankly is a nonsense these days
Compared to my other android smart TVs for example Sony I get 8 gigabyte Advertise memory and 4 GB available for consumer use
I think Samsung mislead the consumer

Thanks for taking the time to provide me with this information. We can't really comment on non-Samsung products, but as for the memory, we do often have preinstalled apps, and the software itself can take up quite a bit of storage. We always advise double checking with our Support Teams if you have any questions or queries, so that we can answer them before you make a purchase. We also have the option to return products if they're not up to your standards too.
In this instance, there isn't much else I can say or provide, but I hope my response sums it up or provides some sort of insight/help.

Any of you use ad blockers of any sort? I had the exact same problem after updating my Samsung Frame last night. Took a look at my Pi-Hole logs.
unblocking the following seemed to fix the problem:
osb-v2.samsungqbe.com

Hey, my TV has the same issue. I found a workaround. I Was trying to download Paramount+ to watch a new movie. When you click your home button on the remote, and then click the arrow to the left. There is a side bar with some headings. There’s a search (with a magnifying glass) what I did was search for a movie that I knew only Paramount+ streamed on for example smile 2. When I clicked the movie there was a button “ more options“ I clicked that scroll to the side click Paramount+ and installed it and that’s how I got the app on. Not convenient, but now I have that app

Interesting post. I'll print this off and the next time I'm up at my nephew's house, I'll see if it works, although in their case, it's a TV channel player they're trying to install. I'll update this thread in due course.

Same problem. I was able to access that icon and install apps after I first got the QN75B last month. Went to install another app today and it wasn't there. I did a factory reset and it still isn't there. I think once the software is updated even a factory reset doesn't set it back to the software version it originally came with. I see my days of buying Samsung coming to an end if they're going to start pulling this garbage. As a matter of fact I'm still within my return window.

Same issue on a new S95d. No add apps tile. All the videos I've seen show this 'add app' tile on the same row of loaded apps. I've read that the latest software change last year removed that tile. If true then whoever made that decision needs a pay cut.
