i have had my tv under a week and a few days after use on one occasion the tv started flashing rapidly whilst watching normal terrestrial tv, i turned the tv off and on again and it seemed to of solved it, on another occasion i turned the tv on and the same thing happened again, i then proceeded to turn the tv off and on again and it cleared, however i later turned the tv to hdmi 1 (xbox one) and as i was playing i noticed faint flashing on the screen too (this was in game mode), i tried changing the brightness and at certain points e.g set at 46 the faint flashing stopped, however a little later the faint flashing on the screen could be seen, is there any advice that can be given as to what i could possibly be missing or doing to cause this? the tv is under warranty but i don't want to go down the route of repairing unless i really have too.

@LukeE75: Can you try unplugging the TV at the wall for around 30 seconds to see if this helps at all? If not, and the flashing persists, press the Home button on your TV remote. Are the menus clear, or flickering in the same manner? Also, run a picture test by going to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test. Does this return any errors?

the problem is very intermittent, so if and when the next time it does flash, i will do as you have said and get back to you

it just happened again, after turning the tv from hdmi 1 to normal tv, it flickered badly, i pressed the home button and the menus were also flashing like the screen was, i then went to do the diagnosis and as soon as i pressed the picture test and the screen reset to display the image, the flashing stopped, the diagnosis which was automatically done before i pressed the picture test said it was ok despite the screen clearly flickering.

Hi Luke,

I am glad I have found this post. I have had my TV for over a month now and I'm experiencing this same issue on a daily basis. I either have to switch the TV on and off again or completely cut the power then replug it in. It can be fine on HDMI then when I switch to Netflix or prime video I get the flickering it also happens visa versa. There seems to be no consistency on when it flickers it just does. I'm hoping I too can find some answers here.

Hi,

did you resolve this. I've just taken delivery off mine and it has happened twice in a week. Might just claim on my warranty for a new one?

the tv requires an update so going to try that and turn the brightness down slightly first

@LukeE75: If you have an external audio device connected to the TV that supports Dolby Atmos, and you have enabled this via Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Dolby Atmos Compatibility > On, then the screen may flicker when this function is turned on or off. This might explain why its flickering when you change sources to an input that doesn't support Atmos. As a potential solution, try going to Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital output Audio Format, and set this to 'Auto'.

If the above isn't applicable, try going to Settings > General > Eco Solution, and disable the following: Ambient Light Detection, Energy Saving Mode and Motion Lighting. You can also try disabling Contrast Enhancer via Settings > Picture > Expert Settings. I hope this helps.

Nick: i have spoken to samsung and they have gone through with me what to do, however the faint flashing still continues so they have recommended i go down the route of the warranty, however rather than sending me a new unit and taking the faulty one i have at the minute, they send an engineer out to have a look at it which i don't agree with, the engineer could fix the tv which is great, but then i kind of have a refurbished/repaired unit that i have paid full price for and as this is from no fault of my own i feel very disappointed with this route.

Andrew: i am happy to try these but surely a brand new tv should be able to function with these settings as they are? i don't think i should miss out on those features because the unit doesn't seem to work as it should.

Hi Luke,

thanks for the update. I completely agree with you on that one. Turning off a setting to make your tv work properly means you miss out on the features of the tv.

Out of curiosity is your tv next to a window? I'm wondering if the automatic adjustments the tv makes itself is causing the issue due to the light in the room? Having said that my other Samsung issue doesn't have this issue but not sure it has automatic adjustment.

i have updated the software on the device today and will see how it gets on. Mine does it across all screens, live tv and when using apps.
