I will write what I did exactly to get Samsung TV Plus in English while living in Germany.
By this method you will be able to:
- change the region of the TV + the Language of Samsung TV Plus App.
- You can choose another language, not only English.
Warning:
This method will reset the TV and all saved setup/settings will be lost.
Requirement:
- Samsung Smart TV.
- Samsung Account, create one at (account.samsung.com).
- Wireless Internet Connection.
- Laptop to create a VPN WiFi (its simple, don’t panic, will explain it soon).
- Admin account on the laptop.
Lets start with the laptop then we move to the TV.
- Connect your laptop to WiFi
- Download and install Hotspot Shield VPN from here https://www.hotspotshield.com/free-vpn/
A laptop restart might be required.
Do not connect the VPN yet, if its automatically connected then disconnect it. - Open a command prompt window as administrator.
How? In the search bar, write CMD and from the list of results you will see a small black image with the name (command prompt), right click on it and select (run as administrator).
Click yes if a notification asked you to allow the app to make changes. - Write the following command on that black screen then press Enter on your keyboard.
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=XXX key=123456 - You should get the following result:
The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed. - That simply created a hotspot wifi from your laptop, we will use it soon with VPN.
The hotspot WiFi name is XXX
The password is 123456 - Do not close the black window until we finish everything 😊
- Write on the black window the following command then press Enter on your keyboard.
netsh wlan start hostednetwork - You should get the following result:
The hosted network started. - If you get another result, something like:
The hosted network couldn't be started.
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
That means your WiFi adapter might not support the hotspot function, you will then need an external USB WiFi adapter.
Something like this one: (This is the one I have)
Belkin Surf & Share N300.
It costs about 8 to 20 Euro from ebay. You can use any other brand, i believe most brands do support hotspot function. - Open the VPN you installed before (Hotspot Shield) and select the country which you want to use its language for Samsung TV Plus. Then Connect the VPN.
- From the windows search bar, write (View Network Connections) and open it.
- You should see some icons, its a list of available network adapters, even virtual adapters will show here also as normal adapters.
Right click at any empty place on the opened window and select View then Details. - We only care here about 2 of them:
- Device Name: Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter
Please note the name of this adapter, we need it on next step.
- Device Name: HotspotShield - Right click on HotspotShield Network Adapter and select Properties.
- At the top select the tap (Sharing).
- Tick the box (Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection).
- From the list (Home Network connection) select the device that has its device name (Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter).
In this list it will be named maybe (Local Area Connection* X)
Check the correct name from step number 13. - Click ok.
- You just created a Hotspot with a VPN connection from a specific country.
- To make sure its working fine, simply open WiFi settings from your mobile and connect to the newly created Hotspot. Then open this website https://www.whatismyip.com/
the ip location should be the desired country you want.
Now lets go to the Samsung TV: (I will explain it as I have it on my TV, it might be a bit different from one TV to another).
- Go to Settings, then All Settings then General and Privacy.
- Click on RESET and reset the TV. It might ask for passcode/pin, usually its four zeros unless you have your own pin.
- The TV will restart and ask you to select the country, select your country, this will not affect what we are doing.
- It will also ask you to sign in to Samsung Account, do not use your smartphone.
- Use the remote control and continue.
- Now connect to the WiFi (Hotspot) you created on your laptop.
- ⚠️Be careful here ⚠️
Some TVs will see Terms and Conditions list just after connecting to the wifi and some will see a screen saying (Enjoy a wide range of smart features).
Whatever you see, any of them. Simply DO NOT move to the next window before to do the next step. - From your TV Remote Control click on the following
Mute then VolumeUp then ChannelUp then Mute.
You should then get a list of all countries in the world, select your country then continue on screen instructions.
If you didn’t get the list of countries while on (terms and condition window) then you should get it on (Enjoy a wide range of smart features window).
One of them should show before the other one. - That will only change the region.
- After finishing all steps, you will be at the main window of Samsung TV.
- You should see Apps icon, which you can use to install Apps.
- Wait few seconds until some photos shows up for some movies.
- What I did is, I clicked on (The Rings of Power) because it is available by Samsung TV Plus. Then try to play it and it will show you a message that you need Samsung TV Plus to watch, do you want to install it? Click yes or install.
- Wait few seconds until its installed.
- Congratulations, now you have your TV with different region and Samsung TV Plus with the desired language 😊
- Note that Samsung TV Plus is not available in all countries.
- I recommend to wait 20 to 30 minutes until all apps from the new region are installed then feel free to go to the TV settings and connect to your normal WiFi.
- PLEASE NOTE, you need to STOP the HotSpot on your laptop.
- Go back to the laptop to that black window and write this command:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork - And you can also disconnect the VPN app.
