Hi everyone,
I have a 2012 Samsung TV model UE40ES6800UXXU which is working brilliantly. Good picture and decent sound.
We have recently seen a notification that iplayer will no longer be available on this TV after October 2024.
I'm assuming that the software / firmware needs updating and tried to do that using the broadband internet connection (I have a cable direct to the router) but the TV says it's not connected to the internet - obviously wrong because we can access iplayer with no problem.
Can anyone please suggest a solution?
I tried to find a USB version of the update online but my model isn't listed on the Samsung firmware update site.
Thanks

@brissle Content providers can withdraw support on older models and in this case may not meet the requirements for an acceptable performance. The only alternative is to use an external Device https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/questions/supported-devices/existing-device-help

Hi, @brissle! If BBC iPlayer will no longer be supported on your TV, updating the software will not resolve the issue. We'd recommend having a read of the following guides on the BBC website:
I hope this helps 🙂

Thanks both.
I feared that this would be the answer.
When my grandson visits, he can cast stuff from his phone to the TV (for films he gets from the internet and for ITVX which we can't get either.
He's tried to teach me how to do that but at the age of 85 I forget how by the time I next need to do it...!!
I just had a look at the price of new TVs and it's scary.
I guess this is just another trick to get people to buy new stuff they don't need, to replace something that is otherwise working fine. And I though big organisations like Samsung and the BBC cared about the environment.
Oh well, thanks for your help.

I realise the frustration, you are likely to experience problems with a 12 yeasr old Tv in the near future though.

I'm no expert, but things in the past were made to last. The TV in our kitchen is getting on for 20 years old.
Of course I realise that technology moves on and "improvements" are constantly being made, but do we REALLY need ever more advanced stuff? Our washing machine has about a dozen programmes but we only use two... Ditto dishwasher..... Our old mobile phone still works fine (OK it can't drive the car) but some people feel they have to change their phone every 3 or 4 or 5 years. I don't reckon that young people really care about the environment.
Rant over - apologies.

you have been fortunate, average lifespan nowadays is 7-10 years. Tv's nowadadays have a large number of small components and a bit different to the old CRT models though commercial factors are at play.
A number upgrade mobile phones quite regularly but tend to trade in or sell their own Devices. There are also risks when security patches are no longer available, the latest Samsung models though are offering 7 years of updates. However I appreciate that not everyone uses technology to the same extent.
