Smart remote not working after update

Samsung AU7100 TV updated to software version 2101 and now the smart remote does not work. If I try to re-pair the remote by holding down the back and play buttons the pairing screen does not show on the TV. 

Please help

Have you tried removing/replacing the batteries of the smart remote, before trying to re-pair to your TV?

Yeah have done. And power cycled the TV. Tried about 100 times last night 🤣
